Hi everyone,
When i got diagnosed with AS my Psychiatrist told me to take cod liver oil as it would help me a lot. I think he said it was due to the EPA in it.
I tried it and to my surpise it works, when taking it i am much happier, worry less and not easily anoyed. When i stop taking it i get annoyed easily and i'm not so happy, i have tried it several times now and i get the same effect everytime i stop taking it.
My question is do any other people with AS take cod liver oil and does it have similar effects on them?

I've never taken it, but coincidentally, my aunt was talking about how she's been giving it to her son everyday and he has calmed down a lot.

I don't think he's officially diagnosed with anything, but he is a very high strung and energetic/uncontrollable kid, who can sometimes be pretty violent. He was still pretty wild when I saw him this weekend, but he had calmed down quite a bit and was not getting into trouble every five seconds.

My thoughts and feelings on cod liver oil: Take it with your morning meal, your afternoon meal, and your evening meal. It's super effective in treating the mood symptom complex of Asperger's syndrome!

I think I'm beginning to discover the extent of my mother's attempts to control me, lol. She used to make me take cod liver oil about 10 years ago, said it was for my asthma. I don't think it worked, though. I used to have huge tantrums. Still do, I suppose.

My keeps trying to get me to take herbal pills and cod liver oil. Say attests that St Johns Wort is much better than any anti-depresants my doctor might give me.
One problem is the gelatine in the capsules of the pills (I'm a vegetarian).
I'd definatly agree that there may be some help cod liver oil provides.

That, and the fact that it is extracted from the liver of fish, rendering it completely non-vegetarian, is why I don't take cod liver oil!

You can get flax seed oil in non-gelatine capsules, which contains just as much omega-3 and 6 as cod liver oil, but is vegetarian (and vegan) friendly.

Regarding St John's Wort, I tried SJW tea a couple of years ago, and found it lifted my mood very well, but also gave me palpitations.

If you don't like the gelatine capsules EYE-Q make a liquid form (not very nice tasting by the way) and they also make EYE-Q smooth, it is cod liver oil in a sachet that comes in different flavours, apricot, pineaple, banana and lemon.
check out www.equazen.com

I am also vegetarian but i still take them because of the benefits i mentioned about in my fist post.

Yes, my son takes them, and yes, it helps. And I should take them.

In Norway, Cod liver oil has been exposed as a hoax created by the fishing industry.

It seems to help in the rest of the world, though.

I've been on Cod liver oil capsules for a long while, and cannot report any great changes.

I'm not a fish eater, and had been recommended this as a substitute for oily fish on general health grounds, capped by the discovery of a slight heart oddity, just possibly congenital.

Best mood changer remains chocolate, despite the side, or front, effects.

My mom offered my nieces cash for taking cod liver oil for 50 days. They accepted the offer and got the cash. I suspect she could have gotten them to eat enormous amounts of garlic if they just got money for clothes and toys.

I used to drink cod liver oil every day because i read on the net that it helps lessen the symptoms of AS. Didn't really work, though.

I'm not vegetarian so I'll try anything so long as it isn't expensive or hazardous to my senses.

My grandmother tries to persuade me to take cod liver oil saying it keeps colds away. I've never heard of any scientific studies connecting cod liver oil with a strenghtened immune system or mood stabilization so I doubt any evidence it's effective is anything but anecdotel.

My mother used to make me take cod liver oil pills every morning when I was in elementary school. It didn't do anything for me that I can recall. The most I would expect from it is shiny hair...
