When I'm playing my videogames it's my private leave me alone time. Sadly this time is usually during house cleaning etc. and later when I'm in the "lets clean mode" family is sitting around watching tv. When I was in College I thought of writing my research paper 24/7 and would even come up with titles while falling asleep. I also try to put a little bit of my view within the paper. When I was writing about the Columbine attacks I wrote swear words and quoted swearing and such that Dylan Klebod and Eric Harris wrote BTW from the research one was a Psychopath the other more than likely depressed and playing DOOM wasn't the cause LOL! media!! ! (Yes I was so invested I remember the killers names LOL!) (I'd compare my thought process to that drawer scene in Bruce Almighty I have THAT many paper ideas) while you/other students might have trouble coming up with paper ideas I HAVE TONS!! ! (Sure your grammar might be better but I have a wealth of ideas and if one doesn't pan out with finding enough research onto the second idea etc.) So I was curious how invested are you into your special interest?

I love to look for continuity errors in lazytown. I've created a whole unvierse behind Sportacus' origins, using some characters from the icelandic books :D I study the old icelandic plays, looking for differences between the characters than and the characters now. I could write an entire biography of Magnus Scheving, and regularly edit his wiki page.

I am starting to taper off on my special interest that I have had since Nov 22 2006. I became obsessed with Asperger's Syndrome in general and WrongPlanet.net in particular at that moment. I have posted on WP until I am the 14th most prolific poster and a year ago last summer they handed me a virtual bucket and mop and told me to make myself useful around here and I became a mod. I do three spam sweeps through WP a day, every day for about a year and a half, I have set up my life and work schedule around moderating on WP and frankly, helping it run smoothly is my extra special interest.

I am fortunate it isn't forms of gold leaf rubbings or telephone pole glass insulators (like my brother has)

It isn't my whole life - might be 2/3 of it though

I'm into London and The Kinks, 24/7. If I get up in the middle of the night, to do anything, I listen to The Kinks on YouTube for an hour, while posting on WP and than I go back to bed. I'm also wearing a red jacket, at this current moment, like Mick always did, long after the other Kinks stopped wearing them. I'm even learning how to play the drums, on my own. I once read that you eventually become what you think about, all day long. I would also like to say that I don't have a problem with this, so don't make me over. :)

Usually when I have a special interest I like to learn a lot about it and collect stuff about it, which always costs a lot obviously. Since Ive had hundreds of interests.
However the most unusual interest Ive had and still have is this world I created in fifth grade. I'm not telling what it's about, but the reason it's so weird is partly based on how obsessed with it I am and how it's come to be uncontrollable.
As in, it's a world I imagined in my head when I was 11, and it's early years (time goes faster there) I was able to make it anything I wanted happen. Until I starte writing stories about it and developing to main characters and my character. I lived with it for 4 years and now, recently something strange happened, I think it started last year. Where now I am unable to control my own imagination. I am pretty sure it's a subconscious thing, like a dream except not while I'm asleep and NOT a daydream. Because you can control daydreams.
So now I think because I've spent way too much time obsessing over this world (which I only made to escape reality because fifth grade sucked) it turned into like an actual world.
So now I am afraid to put too much time into any of my interests.

One of my special interests is health and nutrition, and yeah, pretty invested for obvious reasons.

Well, I've bought $150 worth of books on Buddhism, Buddhist meditation, and the neuroscience of meditation in the last 3 months.

Here is how invested I am in my special interests:

First for amounts and money:

*synthesizers---I have over 20 and have spent around $20,000 on them.
*HO scale models---I have over 300 stuctures with around $5,000 spent on them.
*magic tricks---too many to count, and I have about $5,000 in them.
*roller coaster blueprints---several, and about $1,000 on them.
*house blueprints---several, and about $2,000 on them.

Here is how they all tie in together:

It all goes into my created world for my novel. The setting is being built in HO scale with the models. The synthesizers I need to create the sound effects and music track for the potential movie that could be made off of the novel. The blueprints are needed for the houses and roller coasters for the amusement park in this setting (a resort town). The magic tricks are the tricks used by the town's magician.

I practically lived roller coasters growing up. Even on my first date, I lectured my girlfriend on the history of roller coasters. I used to take house plan books on our dates. She must have loved me, for we have now been married for 20 years. We have two sons---one diagnosed with AS, and the other most likely AS too (but he doesn't want diagnosed).

Growing up, my interests took preference over friendships. My mother often tried to get me to go out with my peers, but I didn't want too. It was too awkward.

I've spent $100 on Kinks CDs, one Saturday when I was in Vancouver for the afternoon with some people from my clubhouse. 8)
