I wish to be free to be myself, as God intended for me to be. I don't wish to be treated for my autism. For me to be treated would imply that I'm broken and that I have a horrible disease. Autism is not a disaese, it's a differnce, and what can be different can be beautiful. I'm glad that I was raised in the 70s and 80s, when even kids with autism were allowed to be kids. I disagree with what kids on the spectrum have to go through, these days, being forced to go through as many hours of ABA as they go through hours of school in a week, and most of the time, I can imagine that those kids hate the thearapy that they're having forced upon them. I told one older woman in my building that I hate Jenny McCarthy, last night. She asked me how I could be so full of hate. Do I seem hateful to all of you at WrongPlanet, I mean...come on! She told me to think of all the little children who want to be fixed. Well, I say, think of all the little children who don't want to be fixed, but their parents want them to be fixed, for status reasons, because society frowns down upon parents who have kids, who have problems. How could those parents be so full of hate?

I call a revolution!

This should be a theme song for those of us, who don't want a cure:

U should have said that stuff.

I hate those parents that don't vaccinate their kids because they think the kids will become autistic,
They are only putting their kids in danger of dying of a completely preventable illness.
I heard of a little girl who died from whooping cough (10 years ago) because she caught it from an older unvaccinated classmate.
she (the girl that died) was too young to have the vaccination.
:(

Agreed with everything. If I hadn't had my MMR, I'd be NT, but also most likely seriously ill, maybe even dead.

Yeah without MMR, I believe I can do more good for the world as an NT.

I want to be free! I also want to be recognised for what I truly am, not my 'illness'...

When I become rich, I plan to start a charity that will spread a positive message about autism, employing only people on the spectrum! It will also provide facilities for us to meet up and make friends IRL, because we understand each other.

I also want to make schools just for people with AS/HFA, so they can benefit from being in an environment with other people who understand them and won't make fun of them, much better than the stupid therapy crap I'm sure you'll agree. The school, of course, will be free.

Anything else you'd want the charity to do? I'm 100% serious about setting this up in about 10-20 years when I have the capital to start such a non-profit organisation.

If I hadn't had it I would still be autistic and possibly dead too.

Go to Autscape and see how they do it, then start something like it. As a spin-off if you like the way they do things, or call it something else if yours is radically different. Maybe during the winter holidays, so as not to compete. Start now. It takes years to get something like that off the ground. Don't wait for the money. It doesn't work that way.
Autscape, August 10 - 13, 2010, in West Wickham (near London) -- http://www.autscape.org/

I went to Autreat last summer, and if Autscape is anything like it, I wouldn't change a thing.

Again, start now. It takes years to do that kind of networking, even for people who are good at it.
Maybe you could start by getting involved with a summer day camp for kids with Asperger's, or some recreation program. See what's already out there, what works, what doesn't... You don't say how old you are. Are you in college or heading in that direction? What's your major?

Yeah, have fun trying to prove that scientifically.

My little sister's unvaccinated and autistic, by the way.

I thought the Wakefield report already tells it all.

Yes, there are autistics before MMR, and there are significant risks after not taking MMR, but taking MMR just happens to increase the chances of having autism... Very much like thalidomide of the 1950's.

Anyway, I just want to be seen as a person who does good as an asset, and not a person who is a liability to my society...

Reading here has very much made me thankful for my father's wisdom and the fact that he gave my potential autism diagnosis the middle finger.

We are happiest when we are being who we naturally are. Why would anyone try and take that away from anyone? To all those who say that autistics can't interact socially without "training," I ask them this: Have you ever taken two autistics and stuck them together? I know three, and I get along well with two. The other is sort of a hit and miss, since I intentionally annoy him for my own amusement, but that's another story.

I have to agree that we need to stop the hate, but can we choose a better song, please?

Oh, and Asp-Z? How about some Autistic Zionism here? You can't doubt that the basic theories behind Zionism can be easily applied to autistics.

Did three people just blame their diagnosis on a vaccine? Congratulations. You're helping to spread a health scare that is keeping parents from vaccinating their kids against fatal diseases.

Autism is not caused by vaccines of any kind. Wanna put your conspiracy theories up against this?

If you wish for specifics on how the results were twisted, there's this:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_a ... 683643.ece

I could provide many, many sources and studies that totally debunk the MMR conspiracy, but there's simply too many to list. These will due unless someone wants to disagree.

I agree actually that it's best to start ASAP, but I'm 15 so I can't sadly!

But it doesn't! People who've had the MMR are actually slightly less likely to be autistic.

Sure you can. You would need to start by educating yourself anyway.
Hang out at places like WP and listen to people who know the problems and needs.
Hang out with people like Autscape and find mentors.
Learn what has been done in the past that worked and didn't work.
Take whatever elective your high school offers in psychology or something related.
Figure out what college major would be most helpful -- psych/education, business, economics, communications?
Age 15 is a perfect time to volunteer at a daycamp. That experience will give you credibility later.
If you start looking in January, you might find a good program and figure out how to get in before June.
