They're thinking of putting me on it.

I battle with so many side effects from clomipramine I thought it might be worth a try.. then I read up on it.. Lack of sex drive? If that happens I will be completely asexual! Fatigue? Thats one of the reasons I want off clomipramine!

It sounds absolutely horrific. WHY CANT I JUST HAVE A NORMAL BODY??? I hate being in a constant battle to be able to function.

I have been on prozak for years.
Not sure what sx you are usibg it to address. Used for depression and also ocd.
I have never noticed tiredness. Some folks do but u can take it at night. Bigger side effect issue is akathesia. Essentially feeling really really anxious ( typically if dose is too high or when first started).

Otherwise its pretty begnign

I am "treated" by force at some shrink's. So obviously I am forced to go there, because for me it couldn't be more of a torture. So this shrink, only to irritate me, writes me a prescription to a drug that supposes to make me concentrate more and reduce anger in general. Oh, and no I don't have ADHD. At first I just faked taking the drug and flushed it out the toilet. But then after I got busted, and again just to anger me they increased the dosage and watched me carefully to make sure I swallow it. So now I am a submissive young man who also have side effects. Thank god this is all about to end soon when I reach 18 (which is soonish).

Moral of the story - don't take anything artificial. Don't insert foreign objects into your body. I don't do earring, tattoos, piercing or anything like that. I take drugs ONLY when it's an absolute necessity like when I'm really sick. But AS is not a disease and I am not "infected" with AS. So I don't have to take drugs to save my life. Bummer.

This is my viewpoint though. I think some people would find prozac or alike quite useful, but for now I am not going to proceed with the "treatment" when I'm not forced to.

That's how I feel too. I would have much rather gone for bereavement/anger management therapies when I was younger than be forced on to medicaiton (which I was). I have literally just two weeks ago come off Citalopram. I developed SSRI discontinuation syndrome which, as I found out, seems to be quite common when taking Citalopram because you have to go cold turkey from 10mg and the nature of the drug means taking it one day then not the next in order to wean off doesn't always work. I have been on Prozac (although mine is called Prozit! Snigger!) for two days now and already I have noticed the symptoms of the SSRI discontinuation have... discontinued. Which is great except I now have to wean off Prozac... Apparently though it is easier to wean off Prozac (after a short time) than it is to wean off Citalopram. Fingers crossed eh?

I have been taking Prozac for a few years. It works great for my depression and OCD but it has diminished my sex drive quite a bit.

I tried Prozac for a while; I was on other meds at the time & it did NOT help my OCD or anxiety at all but none of the anti-depressants & anti-anxiety meds I tried did. I got off the meds after 5 years because I was having lots of side-effects & was getting ready to lose my health insurance & I felt less depressed & a lot better after I quit em than I did the entire 5 years I was on em. My anxiety was actually better after I quit meds than the entire 5 years I was on em. I still have lots of anxiety issues but they were a lot worse on meds. Looking back I would of been better off if I would of learned to accept my issues in the 1st place instead of taking meds trying to fix em

I'm on Prozac right now. It's been the one I keep going back to when I need an SSRI. Others made me gain weight, I had worse anxiety and racing thoughts, and I would have to take an anti-psychotic as well.
Positive effects of Prozac for me are that it diminishes my appetite significantly (especially since cannabis is the other medication I use), I find very few physical side effects and generally forget that I am taking it.
Negative side effects I notice are loss of sexual desire and sensation. It's still possible to "get there" it just takes longer LOL. It also makes me a little drowsy, but I take it at night now so I don't notice it.

I was on and off Prozac for years for depression. I have fairly significant problems with medications but Prozac was kind to me. It got the job done without alot of side effects - well, at least for 9 years or so. Out of the blue it began giving me sever suicidal thoughts. But for those first 9 years it was great.

I was put on it at 13, and then again at about 21. I did not get on with it. It caused me a lot of insomnia, restlessness and agitation, personally. I just had a lot of issues with it, and would not consider it to be a good option for anxiety. I have yet to find a medication that will help with my anxiety attacks and OCD.

I took it for a year or so while I was dealing with anorexia and all of the obsessive behavior associated with it. I never noticed ANY side effects. I suppose it just gave me that mental boost I needed to restore my weight to normal.

Yup. That is THE downside of SSRI pills.

Most people under the age of 30 could use a little sex drive depowering. Sometimes I feel like the only young person out there who's not a total horndog.

I agree. I don't get why less of a sex drive is a problem. That was one of the very few benefits about being on psych meds for me. I'm a lot better off without a sex drive

Clomipramine has also been used experimentally to treat dogs with severe anxiety disorders (separation anxiety, etc.), OCD, or cognitive dysfunction syndrome.[citation needed]

It may take two to three weeks before the full effects of this medication are noticed in most indications and two months or more in OCD.

Along with SSRIs, clomipramine is a frequently prescribed drug for the treatment of OCD. As is typical with the older tricyclic antidepressants (the tertiary amines), it has more side effects than SSRIs, so some authorities regard it as a second-line treatment to be used if treatment with SSRIs fails. However, disregarding side effects, it may be slightly more effective in combating the symptoms of OCD. It is not commonly used for treating depression, and usually another tricyclic (or drug from a different class) would be used. Clomipramine and the SSRIs (specifically paroxetine) have also been used to treat premature ejaculation.

Switching to an SSRI, done correctly, would likely be comparatively beneficial.

When discussing medication, a Psychologist or Psychotherapist will be better than a Psychiatrist (whom focuses more on pharmacological treatment), but all are better than a GP.

Fluoxetine (Prozac) is more for panic disorder than general anxiety or OCD. By comparison, Fluvoxamine CR (Luvox) if available, may help better with OCD and Anxiety Disorder, but you have to limit or avoid alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. Also consider Zoloft and the compound Picamilon.

Herbal extracts of Brahmi, Valerian and St John's Wort are worth considering if you want a non-pharmacological alternative. They need several months to take effect, you will need to limit alcohol and consult a doctor if taking with other medications. They are very easy to come off compared to Pharmacy medicine.

Keep in mind that Psychotherapeutic treatment is more effective than medication, especially long term.
