It seems to be a common theme on here that Aspies on this site, especially the males, are interested in anime, science fiction, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, World of Warcraft, Battlestar Galactica, Big Bang Theory, and so on. I have zero interest in these subjects. I don't watch cartoons either, even adult cartoons, unless you count occasionally watching an old school Simpsons episode. I'm horrible at Math and Science and hate both subjects. It makes me wonder if I even have Aspergers to begin with? I have a lack of common sense and skills, but the reason I don't leave the house is because strangers and co workers make fun of me for my physical appearance. If I looked more mainstream and didn't stand out, I would at least be able to fake playing the game of life.

Perhaps you haven't found your special interest yet. It took me some time, for example, to find out that chess had a special attraction for me.

As the above says, its purely personal. Its usual yes, that aspies has a clear interest in something, that they/we tend to sink a bit too deep into. *cough* But I also read (Ive read alot of aspiebooks..) that there ofc are aspies that dont have any certain interest. You dont have to fit into the template perfectly. Aslong as you have enough traits to fit you into the aspiesection. :)
Most of the times the ones without interest, havnt found theirs yet. There is plenty of time for you to figure out what catches your eye the most. And if you dont find any, dont fret. If they say you have aspergers, you most likely also have it. :) I guess you fit in with the other traits?

You probably don't have an addictive or obsessive personality if you don't think you have any special interests.
My very first special interest was drawing and my parents used to buy me lamb toys so they became a special interest too. Then I loved pretty much every Disney movie that came out after the Lion King and from there I got more and more special interests.
I was bad at science in school but I love it now. It's only been in the last year that I have started to love it.
Six years ago I had hardly an interest in photography but if I told that to anyone that knows me they'd probably not believe me.
I think I do have an addictive personality.

There's got to be something out there for you. Get a piece of paper, a pencil and a learn how to draw book and start from there. If you're bad at math then you may have a more creative mind.
I used to be so good at drawing The Simpsons characters that I could just imagine a scene and draw it.

I think the special interests thing is a bit misunderstood.

It was originally stereotyped as intense, life long, geekish and something they are very very good at.

I've found that this doesn't seem to be the case. I've noticed that there are two types of special interests: prolonged interests or short interests, both of which seem to be of a more intense level than that of what is considered normal.

I fall into the more short type. I get an interest, and then am usually obsessive with it. I want to talk about it and experience it, and I obsessively think about it! I may or may not get to a high level of expertise on it, it depends on how long it lasts. Unfortunately these interests are usually related to games, so it's not like I'm learning a variety of skills. They fade fast, it can be within a few days to a few months.

I wish I had the longer version. I hate that my interest can go from extreme to nothing so quickly.

Special interests can be defined as an almost obsessive drive to learn and understand something.

Under the above definition one of your interests could be trying to analyse you Aspie'ness

One of my interests is astronomy, not the mathematical side of it but rather the vastness of space. Just how small and insignificant our galaxy is amazes me, let alone Our solar system or Earth. I like the general knowledge but I don't spend all my time studying it. I like to understand space and stuff but just not mathematically. I do not really talk about it much, it is not a topic that comes up often. If it does I can sure go on about it though

I am sure there is something you know much more about than the average person. Perhaps you love reality TV shows, wonder why would anyone do it and like to explore the psychological reactions of participants. Perhaps you like politics and read up or just know a lot about things that happened in the news with each political party. Perhaps you just really like wood. Hell it could be programming (or other job) but because you got a job in the field just never noticed.

I know a few aspies who don't have special interests, but they're the exception rather than the norm.

Special interest isn't just an aspie thing, it's a human thing, even normal people have special interests. My mom's is home and gardening, reading, cooking and she loves to decorate her house.

Ofc. But most likely its not to the same extend as it is for aspies. :)

My main interest is astronomy because of how much mans knowledge has grown about it and continues to grow about it. I get lost in a lot of the math. I can't remember too much information if it is explained at once, even worse if that information is numbers. Trying to get my head around astrophysics is hard, even though I get a general idea of what they're talking about in the end. I also have an interest in the multiverse, but I find it very hard to explain it to people mainly because they would just disregard it, but I think 20 years from know we may know a little more about it. I mean once Earth was flat was considered as fact or that it was the centre of the Universe.

Yeah I could go on about it forever too.

^So how do you explain the dropping of Pluto from the list of planets? I am wondering why can't we remember 3 or even more planets...

Planets have now been classified as having enough mass for gravity to pull it into a spherical shape, it also cannot have other bodies circling the Sun in the same path, which cancels Pluto out.
It means very little to me that Pluto is no longer a planet. Many many years ago people didn't think the Sun was a star. It's an advancement in Astronomy that we just have to accept. Just because you feel nostalgic about Pluto doesn't mean it's a planet.
