Has anyone been to one? If so, what was your experience. They don't specify what they do to treat Autism...

It was suggested that I visit the one in the area, but I'm wary. Learning some skills and ways to adapt would be useful, but I do not want to be treated in any other sense.

On second thought, I don't think I'll go. They are into the "defeat Autism now" nonsense.

If so, then that's a good decision. These DAN "specialists" have no idea what they're doing. I'd stay away from them as much as possible.

I was reading their site, and it scares me a bit. Link

Perhaps they'd be good for someone just looking for a diagnosis, but never went back.

What results would you hope for with treatment?

If I could get some social instinct wiring and still keep my intelligence, I'd have to think hard about it. It would make things easier in a lot of ways, but all that extra social input might be distracting. I don't know, I've never had it... but I have had the task of racking my brain trying to infer what those signals would be telling me, and I'd like to be able to use my intellectual energy for other tasks.

All of that assumes that the damn thing even works, which is its own complication...

Well, I'm not terribly worried about the social aspect. I would like better coping skills. I pull my hair and stim a lot. There are times when it's worse than others. I would also like to stop being so incredibly extreme when discussing things with my SO.
