I admit I'm wary about most movies portraying Aspergers/Autism. It seems they're often far off, or even insulting.

I just watched the trailer for Adam, and it seems to be better than the others. Has anyone seen this and liked it? Disliked it? why?

I'd rather save myself the time if it's just going to upset me. :P

Adam was alright, I guess. I usually don't see conflicted romance movies and wouldn't have watched this one if it hadn't been about a dude with Asperger's. I did see that Adam had to grow up and realize that just because you are attracted to and 'love' people, it does not mean the object of the love is obliged to become the buffer between you and the rest of the world.

Adam's love interest was interested in him because he was not like her former fiance nor like her father. However she finds that her own critera for a relationship was not that someone 'needed' her, but that she was loved for her own merits.

I think that Asperger's Syndrome was well portrayed in the film, however I think it reasonable to remember the truism "when you have met one Aspie, you have met one Aspie."

your mileage may vary, of course.

I saw the movie and I liked it enough that I'll probably get it on DVD when it comes out.

I think the best part of the movie is how Adam grows as a person throughout the movie. The biggest problem I had was that I just couldn't see a romantic relationship between the two leads as realistic, but that could just be my own personal bias.

I will say that there were a few scenes that were hard for me to watch because I identified with them so much, particularly the scenes where he's alone in his apartment.

.

that's because there wasn't any realistic romantic relationship between them. She was looking for something else and she found him, and he was looking for something else and he found her.

It might upset you in a "Wow, what a sad movie." kind of way, but definitely not in an "Ugh, Rain Man, yeah right." sort of way.

I saw it. It's got a mix of sadness, romance and comedy. But nevertheless, I think it is a great film! :D

I have heard great things about it and hope to see it, it's not at any of the local stores yet though..
My son and I watched some shorts from an indepedant release called 'if you could say it in words' It seemed very credible and accurate.. My son an aspie has been asking me if i have found a copy yet ever day since..
I think it's sad some of the depictions in movies of ASD. so often it's obvious it's written from the NT perspective and glorified.. Mind you thats movies really isn't it

I saw it and liked it. I thought it was a little stereotyped and exaggerated but overall it was good. At least they gave him some normal skills and not made him pure AS.

I was surprised at some of the comments I saw about the movie online. Saying he was a child (Beth also said that in the movie) and saying he ignored her, and lacked eye contact. Excuse me, I did see Adam looking at Beth.

Does anyone know when "Adam" will be released on DVD?

I'll watch it one of these days. I liked the trailer, seemed as if Adam could be a realistic character, save for a few things ("You said you couldn't see out of your windows...." dooohhhhh! Gimme a break). It's not as if the writer and director didn't do their research though. But I'll reserve further judgment for when I watch the movie.

I saw Adam on a plane, I thought the portrait of the guy was alright but I got really annoyed with the portrait of the woman - she was really standard Hollywood 'girlfriend', and didn't have any characteristics that didn't directly relate to the men around her.

I also saw Mary and Max recently, I didn't know it was animated until it started (I thought I was going to see Phillip Seymour Hoffmann as an aspie) but I enjoyed it more than Adam. It's more brutal maybe, but the woman was a person in her own right, and I thought the movie had a better flow to it than Adam. But I'm sure some people disagree.

I don't know, I wouldn't hang myself from the roof, being a little bit afraid of heights...but I've certainly done things that were just as stupid

Especially when nobody else is around to tell me I'm doing it wrong :x Or that I just shouldn't be doing it in the first place.
