Does anyone else get a feeling of comfort/safety from wearing dark glasses or sunglasses?

I find that other than the obvious toning down of bright light (which I can't stand) they give me a sense of having something more shielding me from the world. A wall of sorts. Without them I feel very open and unprotected.
I have my glasses tinted as dark as possible in a brownish color. It's very soothing.

I can't go without them. My eyes are very delicate.

I really like reflective sunglasses. It's always too cloudy to wear them here though

I wear shades whenever I am outdoors.....Bumper glare is an eye killer and sometimes
the after image escalates into a migraine aura.

I feel self conscious sometimes when I do so, but I too prefer to wear sunglasses. I have a very nice pair of Oakley's that look nice and are very dark, and they have been great and worth the rather expensive price. Usually if I'm asked about it, I just say that I suffer from migraines, which is true, but there is more to it than that.

I love shades. In fact, I've long been cultivating a minor obsession with vintage shades. I kind of passively research styles in the 1950's - 1970's, and tend to hone in on styles of shades that certain people wore during specific years, and try to find something as identical-looking as possible. Once I've found a good pair, they become a signature part of my style and I like to wear them all the time.

I also like to collect dirt-cheap shades as back-ups in case the others break. Especially the more ridiculous-looking kinds.

I don't need them or anything, but I prefer darker environments. I wouldn't mind being a MIB.

My light sensitivity is so bad that I should wear shades but I only wear them on really hot days.

These are the glasses I want and I won't be happy till I've got them. In fact, I'd like the entire outfit including the hat. I've been looking for glasses like these for a very long time. Anyone know where I can find them?

They just look like tinted prescription glasses.

I have mine tinted to cut down that "white" colour of normal room light. The optometrist I see says she does it often with people who have an ASD and also wear glasses.

Always used to wear dark glasses, otherwise I had to screw my face up really hard to see, especially on bright overcast days. (If you don't get those days where you are, it's when the sky is covered with white cloud, but the light is really bright and diffuse.) In those days I got more comments about my facial expression than the glasses. When I started getting more comments about the glasses than the face, I stopped wearing them so much. Now I'm trying to get back in the habit of putting the glasses on but it makes me feel conspicuous.

I have found myself wearing sunglasses more and more now.

I even wear them in shopping malls sometimes if it's too bright.

I also tend to use ear plugs in shopping malls and some restaurants.

It almost feels like I am going into battle sometimes when I 'go out'!

That's interesting..I had considered earplugs at one time myself. But over the years my hearing has gotten much worse so I now find that sounds don't bother me near as much as they used to.

I love them! My criteria for picking a pair of sunglasses is to look in the mirror and pick the pair that completely hides my eyes from outside view. I feel so much more relaxed when wearing them.
