Is one of your special interests much bigger than your others. So much so that sometimes you have trouble finding time for your other interests. Or are you able to regulate each one to a certain set of hours.

The 60s, The Kinks. It's all about Swinging London, Carnaby Street and Routemasters!

Music as well.

I thought that that was basically the definition of a "special interest"... One that takes up a lot of your time and leaves little room for others.

Im talking about special interests. Meaning if you have more than one. Such as anime and videogames or others.

What happens with me is that my most intense special interests are special interests for life, but they only are in a "rambling period," as I call it, for about 1 1/2 to 3 years. By this I mean that, during the rambling period, a specific special interest is the one that I can't stop talking about or thinking about, but once this dies out, it's just a background special interest that doesn't consume me. For example, I Love Lucy is my biggest/most favorite special interest and always will be, but it was only in the rambling period from 2000-2002. It doesn't consume my thoughts anymore. My current rambling special interest is YouTube series "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?"

I have only ever had room for one special interest. There is no time, mental power, or energy left to be (or even desired to be) devoted to anything else.

That's one of my favorite YouTube videos.

Music, without a doubt. Oftentimes my focus changes (garage, old school punk, freakbeat, glam, powerpop, psych, postpunk/80s alt.) but oh how I love to haunt record stores in my spare time. Its more than a need, its a drug. 8O

One at a time.

I have a few special interests, but they decide which is to be at the fore for any given period of time.
Last year I had one usurp the prime position of another, and what is so humorous about this is the one that was superseded was my primary special interest and also my career! And there was not a darn thing I could do about it! I tried to hang onto the career/special interest one...but they were waging a great battle inside of me and they decided between themselves whose turn it was to take precedence.

This is truly how it has always been for me.

^ Agreed. I don't choose my special interests. They choose me.

^ Yes.
And it is very difficult trying to explain it to NT people who assume one has adequate control and direction over one's itnerests as they might. It's been interesting the past few months experiencing the confusion my recent shift in special interests has caused those other people I knew in the art scene. They simply cannot get their head around the change in my special interest and also my life as a result. :)

But it all makes perfect and comfortable sense to me.

Internet and Video Games. They're both so dominant that I find various resources/websites/games that help give me knowledge on other interests (E.G: Three Kingdoms interest = RoTK XI and Dynasty Warriors game series, British Etiquette/Gentlemanly conduct = Roleplaying a character and viewing web pages).

But besides that special interest do you have interests in things other than your special interest just not with even close the same intensity.

Special interval time topic

My main interest is always at the forefront of my thoughts, and takes precedence; the other interests have been offshoots. So if I run out of reading material for one, I can switch into the other. i can also pick up a related interest and study it for a time, and return to others. Much like when someone googles a topic and finds other neat stuff that can always be used at a later date.
