hi

does anyone else still have bad dreams /nightmares about school as an adult?

i wondered if it was common for people with AS or unusual.

I find it very harsh that all these years after leaving school (Im 30) I still suffer really bad dreams about being in school.

I'm pretty sure they are common for everyone. I've known NT's to mention it. Mine are usually on exam day and I realize I've forgotten to go to any of the classes. Either that or it's the first day and I can't find the class. I walk in and out of buildings and walk up and down stairs and down endless rows of empty halls.

On the odd occasion I have a disturbing dream that I have to go back to high school because I didn't get a required class for graduation.

Not for a few years now, but those kinds of nightmares used to be horrendous.

I have frequent dreams about a bully from school. In them some times we're friends and it's weird, other times he's trying to kill me and I'm on the run.

The other school dream is "oh it turns out I forgot to such and such subject and it means i have to go back to high school/university all over again". Apparently that's a common one in professional industries.

I have dreams like that, from time to time. Those dreams are about my male peers asking if I stroke myself, or my female peers asking if I would play Tonsil Hockey with some guy. I tend to stay up for the rest of the night, after that. If only those buggers knew how unworldly I was and still am.

I get both these dreams from time to time.

I have had both of those dreams. I think these are a byproduct of spending an entire childhood in school. It's bound to have an effect. A friend who grew up in China in the 60's told me that still as an adult she has that. In her version (influenced by Maoist education system) she is called on in class to recite from Mao's Little Red Book and the text is all gibberish and her words are all gibberish. Then the teachers and students mock her for being an enemy of the people. I found this fascinating because all though the dream is utterly unique to the Chinese educational system of a certain time, it also has the same basic themes that apparently haunt most educated humans, regardless of where or how they were educated.

No, worse: These memories/flashbacks haunt me everyday and interrupt my life. Banging my head doesn't even make it stop. PTSD.

I JUST had a dream in which we were leaving for vacation and I was trying to finish some homework. XD;;;; But I haven't been out of school for more than like a year, year and a half or so.

I've never dreamt about school, but my wife, who is NT, does it often. She describes finding out she has to go take an exam for a class she didn't remember being enrolled in, so she never attended it and doesn't know the material. This is someone who had a 4.0 average and took gifted and honors classes and won scholarships, so it's part of her psyche.

I think it's fear of being discovered as a fraud. Many educated successful people have this fear I think. I have this theory that fear of success is really fear of failure once removed.

 This is so funny, because I have variations of that dream all the time. It's the ADHD dream, I guess. Poopylungstuffing? How about you? Do you have that one?

The most recent one is that I was about to graduate from university, and then it was brought to my attention that I had changed majors long ago, and had accidentally been taking the wrong classes all along. I would have to take a whole bunch of other classes, all of which were at the top of a tower which I couldn't reach.

Pretty much the story of my life. :)

I'm still at school (sort of - I cant go in) but I have very horrible nightmares about school. One I keep having is this huge school building and I can't get out. All the doors are locked and I can't escape. My dad's on his way to get me but I can't get out to see him. There are police running about but they don't speak to me. Apart from that it's completely empty.

This dream goes on for hours and hours...I usually don't get out from it until someone wakes me up.

This is strange because I panic whenever I go into school. Social anxiety, AS or what ?

Ohhh...I've had that one! I've also had the one where I have important homework or papers that I need to turn in and I don't have them and I can't find them.

I've also had dreams where I realize I'm at school in nothing but a diaper. 8O
