I just finished this book by Jude Welton (it is nothing to do with the movie Adam that is shortly due for release on DVD)

It's a story about a nine year old boy with AS in the weeks leading up to and including an 'Alternative' type of Sports Day at a UK State School.

It is almost an exact diary of my thoughts and feelings as a confused young boy, knowing I was different but not understanding WHAT!

He's even a strong swimmer, like me!

If you'd like to jump in a time machine and see and hear yourself at that age, I would highly recommend this.

It only takes about an hour to read.

I'd also recommend the Asperger Adventure series by Kathy Hoopman, which looks at a young Australian boy.

He is diagnosed with AS in the first book, 'The Blue Bottle Mystery'.

The second book (Of Mice and Aliens) looks at the challenge of being a literal thinker and the confusion that can be caused with metaphors as well as the experience of just being 'different'

The third book is written about a young Australian girl with AS; Lisa and the Lace Maker'

Enjoy

These books sound great. I'm especially interested in the Asperger Adventure series.
Thanks for the info.

I didn't like Asperger's Adventure series as much as I liked the book "Haze", also by Kathy Hoopmann. In my opinion, the Asperger's Adventure series presented a very stereotypical picture of AS. On the other hand, I could relate the the boy in Haze a lot; he isn't as one dimensional and evolves throughout the story, which I like.
I should check out Adam's Alternative Sports Day, too.

I have read all those books. They were a little stereotyped; computers, and math, but at least they made Lisa be different. No stereotypes I can remember. It was suspected her great aunt had AS too but the book didn't say so I assume we are left to guess.

I only own Haze and the Adam one.
