I don't know if this has anything to do with the general discussion forum, but I think this is a rather interesting subject.

According to a famous aspergians list, one of those is Charles Schulz. I've also read up on a biography on him, and upon reading it, it sounds like a possibility (although his family had a little problem with the biography), and if you also read the Peanuts comics, you can see some aspie traits in the characters. Linus and his intellegence, yet holding onto the blanket with thumb in mouth, Lucy and crabbiness, Schroeder and his Beethoven obsession, and Charlie Brown, well, just being Charlie Brown.

Bill Watterson may also be an aspie, as well (with Calvin and his imagination, not to mention his preference of animals over people) but that's just my humble opinion.

So, what's your opinion on all of this?

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Don't forget Jon Arbuckle in Garfield (even if he's a bit extreme). Characters with Aspie-like tendencies seem like very interesting characters for comic strips, and a lot of people have recognized that. Pokemon is also a manga, and the guy who created Pokemon has Asperger's as well. I don't know if Charles Schultz or Bill Watterson ever recieved a diagnosis (a little late for Schultz, it seems), but it's entirely likely. At least we know for sure that we can relate to their quirky characters!

I'm working on a comic about a little girl who has AS and her adventures with her adopted baby brother who is really an orphaned alien.

Randall Munroe, of xkcd fame, absolutely HAS to be! Thought that was the obvious one! Check out "Overstimulated" and "Dirty Harry meets Rain Man"...the mouseover in the latter refers to "people like me"!

That's sounds really interesting Punky.

Jon in the Garfield comics seemed aspie. So did Zippy the Pinhead, but he was, y'know, a pinhead. But his author wasn't.

in the cartoon strip "Drabble," Norman Drabble's younger brother (whose name escapes me) seems a good candidate. He actually enjoys schoolwork! Intellectual, avidly pursues his special interests, very poor at sports, and he only socializes with his best friend who shares his interests. On the other hand, the cartoonist probably just means him to be a geek.

Almost forgot about him. Yeah, he does exhibit some aspie traits.


And how could I forget Dilbert. There's an aspie if I ever saw one, IMO.

Nah, he just represents the extremly boring side of NT's. Thanks. Since I have personal expirence with AS, the girl will not be a sterotype (she's already breaking one by being a girl.) The main theme of the comic is being diffrent and learning to embrace it. The best friend of the girl and alien is a deaf, wheelchair bound dominican girl. She's a HUGE influnce on the AS girl.

I personaly think Shroter from the Peanuts is a poster child for AS.

Yeah, I have to agree. We need more exposure to girl aspies out there. The alien and aspie combo sounds like it would make for an interesting comic series.

I agree with that as well, Schroeder is the aspiest of the Peanuts characters. I guess that's why he doesn't seem to notice Lucy, or he just doesn't care if she's around, just Beethoven, Beethoven, and more Beethoven.
