I was driving yesterday and had on my sunglasses. It wasn't very bright outside but I tend to squint even on cloudy days. Anyway, when I got to my destination and took off my sunglasses, I discovered that one of the lens was gone and I'd been driving around looking like an idiot. I guess my brain read it wrong since one lens was intact. Has this kind of thing happened to anyone else?

To my older brother this very summer... :)

(He's NT and a right clever man). Distracted by a toddler that he was taking for icecream.. people they met going back home gave him odd looks and as he came home he noticed glass missing from one the the frames in his sunglasses. Found the missing glass in his shorts pocket, so he had gone all the way from the ice cream store and home without noticing.

I have no idea how we can do this without noticing. I guess its cause our brain reads input from both eyes, so one eye shaded will give us a shaded impression, even if one eye is left unprotected? *guesses madly*

Maybe the lens came off after you got out of the car, so no one actually saw? It could be possible.
I once wore glasses with one lens missing because I was dressed like Harry Potter and those were the only glasses I could find. Anyway the eye on the side of the missing lens got sore and itchy so I don't think I'd not be able to notice if I wore glasses with one lens missing and not noticing it.
^wow a sentence with a triple negative. I apologise but there is a lot of noise outside my door. :x

^ No, I was hoping but I found the lens in a cloth bag they had been in earlier. My mother told me of her friend who was frazzled trying to get her small children ready for church. Later when she walked down the aisle to sit down she glanced down and realized she was still wearing her big pink fuzzy slippers. So she started limping.
