Ever since I was little I have always been drawn to/ lovewater. I have always love to take baths and would spen 2-4 hours in the tub and mated when mom would tell me to get out of the tub. I always loved rivers and watching water flow down the street after and durning a rain storm. I love the look of water in a fish bowl and the sound of a fish tank.

Is anyone else drawn to water? Is this common amoungst other autistics?

I used to be afraid of water as a kid. After I got used to it, I spent hours in the bathtub watching the tap drip or touching the surface of the water and observing the disturbance that it made throughout. I also enjoyed playing with bubbles while taking bubble baths. I don't play with the bubbles much now, nor do I take any bubble baths, but I still find myself just playing around with water or watching it flow for hours at a time. I enjoy swimming, too; I really like the feel of water around my body as I swim.

I used to love swimming, if there was a body of water deep enough to submerge myself, I was in it.

Then I learned about stuff that lived in water and I stopped swimming. I suspect watching Jaws at age 7 played a part in it.

I love to watch water flow and I love to listen to the sounds too. It's very hypnotic and soothing.

I like drinking water and drink it over juices or soft drinks. In fact I don't drink soft drink at all.
I have a fear of large bodies of water though, because I cannot swim.

My family used to own a motel on the water here in Michigan, it was great fun to be able to go to the beach all the time. The sound of water is definitely very calming & soothing, swimming is great to, I love to swim whenever I get the chance to.

And about it being related to Autism, it could be. I used to play with water when I was younger, there is just something so "powerful" about water & most people that have replied say they like water.

I do love to be in water. I spend a lot of time in the bath tub and shower. I could almost live in the shower. I spend a lot of time in the hot tub and just recently started using the steam room at the gym. Ive never really liked swimming. I always hated going to the pool when I was younger partially because it was always crowded and also because I have never been a very strong swimmer.

Isn't everyone? We all need it to stay hydrated. We have to drink up to 8 cups a day.

As a child I was beyond terrified of water in my face, freaking out doesnt even begin to describe my reaction. As a more rational adult I am trying to learn to swim (still cant put face in water) I have panic attacks in boats occasionally, the movement of water is very disorienting to me.

Do I love water? I'm practically a fish. When ever I go swimming most of that time is spent swimming under water.

i do not like water but i am very glad it exists.

i never drink pure water because it is tasteless and extremely boring.
when i have a shower, i always feel intruded upon by being wetted (coinage).

if i am dressed during the day or in bed at night, i would very much be dissatisfied by getting wet.
when i get undressed and i am ready to get into the shower , i still feel as if i do not want to let my body get wet. so for the first minute or so of my daily shower i feel "jeez...errrk..owch..yuk", but after that i get used to it and kind of like it because it is warm and cleansing.
after i get out of the shower i feel so cold and wet and i hate the feeling unless i have a heater going that i can run to and dry myself in front of.

i can not go to bed for at least an hour after a shower because my hair is wet and my skin is also not completely dry, so i must have my shower when i know i will be up for 2 hours after i have it.

i must be completely dry when i go to bed.

Yes. I was forced to take swiming lessons but it was like pulling teeth for them to make me jump in the pool and they never could make me. I think it's got something to do with the same reason zoos can keep birds in an open exibit and not have them fly away. Diffrences in light and depth perception. I also did not like the sensation of water being around me sudenly like that. I have to step into pools slowy and let my body adapt. I didn't like the fell of it splashing up on my face. I had to hold my nose or else I felt I was going to drown. When they wanted me to dunk myself underwater they got made whenever I would hold my nose. I hated the sensation of my hair being wet and as I said if I couldn't hold my nose I felt like I was drowining. I could never kick and move my arms at the same time and for some reason it really pissed them off when I "dog paddled". It was the only way I could swim without splashing water all over and making an awful noise that hurt my ears. And this was a special swim class for LF autistic kids supposedly. I wish my mom would find out if these "programs for autistic children" were really gearded twoards those who were LF. Humans aren't meant to be aquatic like seals. They made such a big deal out of me jumping in that it only made me more aversive. Why is it such a big deal to jump into a public swimming pool? But yes I was always getting in trouble for playing in water and making a huge mess. I loved the texture of water and the floating sensation. I took swiming lessons before at six at a regualr community pool and had the same problems as before but they made such a big deal about "the deep end" that I would go into panic attacks when we were supposed to go there. Even today it still freaks me out to go to "the deep end" of that same poor. I haven't been there in years but I bet it still would freak me out. Deep ends of other pools don't bother me. If I was allowed to do my own thing on my own terms I was okay with swiming.

I like sitting by the ocean watching the water in the evening....am fascinated by the white tops on the darker waves. I don't like being in it though since I can't swim. Won't even get on a boat.
