Do you hold animals as equals or higher than humans?

Children have always irrated me. I refuse to go to my brother's house because his kids scream at the top of their lungs CONSTANTALY and are never told to stop or quiet down. My mum says I didn't learn the concept of an "inside voice" until ten or eleven but she would always remind me to quiet down. I remember as young as four never wanting to get married or have children of my own and have never changed my mind at 23. I've always been a misanthrope and have vewied animals higher than humans. Why are people so special? I remember telling my mom that if a person and another person kill/hurt each other on the TV or if an animal kills/hurts a person (nine times out of ten the person had it coming) I fell nothing. But if a person kills an animal I feel bad for the animal. She asked me if I feel anything if the said person is a baby. I said yes but still for the animal because when an animal hurts a person but espicaly a child the animal is going to be killed with no hesitations.

People like Peta are always being told things such as: "with all the innocent children being exploited, aborted and abused, with all the people starving why don't you pull your head out of your ass and fight for a real cause rather than if a cat gets caught in a fanbelt..." and that Peta needs to forget about animals and become a human rights organation. There are already human rights organations and when half the things reported get out the perpertrator gets punished but if they do said thing to an animal people are like, "Oh it's just a dog." I personaly used to hate dogs because they let themselves be abused and don't try to defend themselves but I never saw that as an excuse to mistreat them. I later realised that dogs and all animals are just innocent. Are dogs really "Man's best friend" or are they in reality, "Man's best victim"?

As a child I hated people but as I grew and saw the horrible things they did to animals I grew to loathe them. I was always found of animals and for years I felt I was born the wrong species. Cats were my first special intrest and I felt I should have been a feline instead of a human. Even as an adult I feel as if I were born in the wrong body but I've learned to supress it from the normals. I began to loathe the human race as young as three. I hated how people treated me and would never let me be. When I learned to speak and tried to voice my feelings, I was told that they were wrong and I should have those same feelings for people. Why were people always so important?

When I try to voice how wrong animal testing is I am told it's nesassary. If those same things were done on humans, a person would be veiwed as a phycopath. It seems to be a taboo to suggest death row inmated be used instead even when they themselves inflicted so much pain on others. There is a rodeo in town next week and my brother and sister-in-law (who claims to love animals) are estatiac to see it. Why do people get such a thrill out of watching animals be manhandled? When Steve Irwin was killed I wondered what he did to piss off a stingray. Stingrays are amung the most gentle and peaceful animals if you don't bother them.

I figured he got such high ratings because people get such a high out of watching people manhandle animals. What he did was nothing more than glorified aligator "wrestling" which is considered animal cruelty by many. Captive crocodiles and alagators can be peaceful and friendly if treated with respect. I'm not saying it's wise to go up and hug them but they don't freak out at the sight of a person like Irwin's did. His animals were clearly afraid of him. If I ever went to the Australia Zoo while he were alive, he'd be lucky if I didn't give him a black eye or bloody nose.

I almost beat the piss out of the neighbor kid for beating his dog due to his BS redneck logic (he claimed he was punishing the dog for runing away and when I tried to explain that the dog thought he was being punished for coming home). I regret not socking him. People are always telling me it's not wise to be so overly conserned for animals and that I need to transfer that concern to humans. If someone in real life says that I litteraly tell them to go f**k themselves. Is there something wrong with me because I value animals over human life?

I understand where you're getting at. Animal's lives should be valued as much as human lives. Unfortunately with today's society I doubt it'll happen, even though I hope they will.

I agree with you on the whole Peta thing. Their are human rights organisations, so why not one for animals?

Throughout my life I have heard about a lot of abuse done to kittens and it just sickens me. There's abuse done to other animals too. I don't know how a person could do such a thing to a defenseless animal.

My mum used to beat my dog for running away and said that she knew when she was in trouble. But dogs aren't human. They can't speak english or understand us very well. So yes she was abused for coming home. I told mum to take her to the pound and I hope that some nice family has taken her in. I couldn't run away with her because well, I don't know but I had to live in that house. I just didn't want my dog to get beaten so I let her go. I still hold it against my mum.
Last night I heard mum yelling at my kitten. And I'm muttering in my bed 'she can't speak english and if she could she's a cat - cats don't listen to our rules!' Honestly I wonder if there's something going on in my mum's head. If she lays one hand on little Lyra I will intervene. Mum won't let her sleep in her litter box. Lyra likes hard surfaces so I laid out some loose tiles on the floor for her. She seemed interested but went back to the litter box. I let her. Cats have their routines and she'll eventually move on to another spot.

I so badly want a dog, but my mum is a psycho when it comes to disciplining them, and my sister said if I ever get a dog I should move out first.

^ That is so horrible and I'm sorry you're going through it too. My family were that way too. Animals and children alike were equal opportunity.

I once got an e-mail from PETA that said milk causes autism and makes you fat. LOL, what next? Cancer? I wonder if the PETA members teeth are falling out?

Equals. Every species has its place in Nature, including humans. It's just our perception that humans are better. But mind you, I suppose being human ourselves, we do kind of have an excuse to be a little biased!

And no, I'm not keen on PETA. Their methods are a little dubious, and they just end up giving animal rights a bad rep with the general public.

Strange. For me, I've always considered myself above everything else. In that respect, I admit to being somewhat selfish and arrogant (however, I am not ignorant - I see value in those that I believe are valuable). However, I have always got at my family for doing immoral actions - such as smoking, drinking alcohol and, yes, eating meat. As for my Dog, I absolutely hate the way my family actually treats it. My family feeds it all our leftovers - Human Food! Yet, what does it do? It still growls at us when it's in a bad mood or barks at the neighbours - the disobedient fool. Then again, I've always been more of a Cat person (however, I'd like to have a pet Pug too)...

I have so many friends that are "animal rights", but I really don't care that much about it. True, it could jail a few extra criminals, but when we kill and eat animals daily - why should we care about the non-edible ones? I mean, we don't care about those that are edible, because we slaughter and eat them, so why care about those that aren't edible? I've never understood that. In my opinion, bringing back the death sentence will do alot more good to reducing crime than Animal Rights laws (however, I do still believe Animal Rights Laws should be in place).

In conclusion, I actually consider animals to be a lesser species than humans for various reasons. We've been conformed into a society which they are killed for food, they haven't adapted to Earth in the same extent that we have, they are stubborn (even when treated well, they growl at their owner) etc.

When our dog was put down for biting someone I went into a depression/anxiety for about 3 years. It wasn't his fault. My mum got support from her friend who's an MD and they did the "right" thing. They just treated me like I was crazy. I read out the law to them and the friend said her brother is a lawyer bla bla and she knows. I happened to have an older friend who was a judge and she agreed with me. She told mum and then mum stopped being friends with that MD smart ass woman. Mum did it behind my back coz she knew I wouldn't let it happen. She was just scared she'd be prosecuted for the dog biting. She started acting a little dodgy again recently when my old cat got sick so this time I went to the vet and made sure she was cared for. Mum kept trying to make me think that my cat was gonna to die, preparing me. My cat was at the vet for a week and it cost me $850 but she's well again and happy at home. Mum and the vet looked like they felt stupid cos they thought she was gonna die. She has to go back in a week for a check up and the vet's on holiday but he offered to come in to see her.
