i am new to the AS community and am only self diagnosed for now. I have always known something was different i just didn't know what.

anyway 2 of my favorite songs because they fit how i feel most of the time are

Welcome to My Life - Simple Plan

and

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day (it's been my ringtone on my phone for many years)

ironically i had read somewhere that someone suggested that both of those songs were written by people with AS. when i saw that it kind of freaked me out because if that's true and if i do have AS (i am only self tested, i took 3 tests earlier this week and they all pointed to AS) that would definately explain a lot and why i feel like i myself could have written both of those songs.

does anyone else have songs like that they feel fit their life?

When I was younger...before I knew anything about AS...my boyfriend at the time deemed this to be my song...

She's out of sync
and everyone around her
knows that something is wrong
she's out of sync
she's got all the symptoms
of a girl who skipped a beat
she's out of sync
a piece of ancient history
she's a walking mirage
she's out of sync
she entered through the exit
and never stopped to think

She's out of sync she's a half step behind
she's out of luck her body split from her mind
she's out of orbit she'll never connect
she'll run out of time before she accepts she's out of sync

She's out of sync ---- (sync)
she's out of sync ---- (sync)

She's out of sync
and everybody senses
there's a distance to keep
she's out of sync
and totally committed
to living in a dark age
she's out of sync
she's constantly undoing
what's already been done
she's out of sync
trapped in a silent movie
and she's on the brink

She's out of focus
she's a warp in time
she's discontinued
a break in the line

"Iris" - The Goo Goo Dolls
"Superman" - Five for Fighting
"Imaginary" - Evanescence (though this is more about escapism than not fitting in)

oh, i know the song iris well. it's probably one of my LEAST favorite songs, lol.

mainly because the summer of 1998 when that song was everywhere, i had a falling out with a friend of mine and that song reminded me of how i felt about it. luckily he and i are still friends now but that song reminds me of the whole ordeal.

I can think of multiple songs that I swear were written from the inside of my head. I'll try to narrow it down, though.

Seconding Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I actually once took an online quiz that was supposed to determine what my theme song is, and this song was the result. I was already quite familiar with the song, and the entirety of the "American Idiot" CD at that time, and I agreed wholeheartedly.

Additionally

Out of my Depth, by Everclear. I first heard this song in college, and was amazed by how accurately it describes what it's like in my head. I hadn't even heard of AS then.

Out of my depth
Lost in the air
Falling faster
Like a broken elevator

Out of my depth
Lost in the dark
Waiting for that other shoe
To come down hard

I cannot communicate
Like I wish I could
I do not deal with my problems
Like I know I should

I am out of my depth
I am out of my league
Watching everything
Just slip away from me

Something bad is going to happen
I can feel it deep inside
There are shadows all around me
Like a bad moon on the rise

I am in over my head
I am in too deep here
Over my head
I guess I should keep my opinions to myself
I guess I am out of my depth

Out of my depth
Right from the start
I feel like I was born
With an invisible heart
Out of my depth
Seems like everyday
I can't find the words
To make the good things come my way

Yes, I feel like I am faking it
I feel like I am wrong
I feel like I'm a guest
Like I just do not belong

I am out of my depth
Every single day
I just cannot find the words
To make my monsters go away

Something bad is going to happen
I can feel it deep inside
There are shadows all around me
Like a bad moon on the rise

I am in too deep here
Over my head
Yes, I am in too deep here
Over my head
I should seek some professional help
Because I'm out of my depth
Yes, I am out of my depth
And I am slowly going out of my mind

Oh, go away
Make them go away
Someday I know
I will make them go away
Make them go away
Make them go away
Someday I know I will
Make my monsters go away

I am in over my head
I should seek some professional help
I should keep my opinions to myself
I guess I'm out of my depth
I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth
I am out of my...uh, uh, WAHHHHH!! !

I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth

I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth
I am out of my depth
Yes, I am slowly going out of my mind

"Walk Unafraid," by REM. I can relate to most of it, with the notable exception of the, "I'm prepared to look you in the eye," part. Not a big fan of making eye contact, here. Otherwise, I can really relate to this.

As the sun comes up, as the moon goes down
These heavy notions creep around
It makes me think, long ago
I was brought into this life a little lamb
A little lamb
Courageous, stumbling
Fearless was my middle name.
But somewhere there I lost my way
Everyone walks the same
Expecting me to step
The narrow path they've laid
They claim to
Walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
Hold my love or leave me high.

Say ''keep within the boundaries if you want to play.''
Say ''contradiction only makes it harder.''
How can I be
What I want To be?
When all I want to do is strip away
These stilled constraints
And crush this charade
Shred this sad masquerade
I don't need no persuading
I'll trip, fall, pick myself up and
Walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
Hold my love or leave me high.
If I have a bag of rocks to carry as I go
I just want to hold my head up high
I don't care what I have to step over
I'm prepared to look you in the eye
Look me in the eye
And if you see familiarity
Then celebrate the contradiction
Help me when I fall to
Walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
Hold my love or leave me high.
Walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
Hold my love or leave me high.

Handle With Care, by Jenny Lewis -- I can relate to a great deal in this song as well.

Been beat up and battered 'round
Been sent up, and I've been shot down
You're the best thing that I've ever found
Handle me with care

Reputations changeable
Situations tolerable
Baby, you're adorable
Handle me with care

I'm so tired of being lonely
I still have some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care

Everybody's got somebody to lean on
Put your body next to mine, and dream on

I've been fobbed off, and I've been fooled
I've been robbed and ridiculed
In day care centers and night schools
Handle me with care

Been stuck in airports, terrorized
Sent to meetings, hypnotized
Overexposed, commercialized
Hand me with care

I'm so tired of being lonely
I still have some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care

Everybody's got somebody to lean on
Put your body next to mine, and dream on

I've been uptight and made a mess
But I'll clean it up myself, I guess
Oh, the sweet smell of success
Handle me with care

Also, several songs from The Smiths, and plenty of others as well.

Some of the lyrics of this song describes my experiences with meeting people.
Daniel Bedingfield - I can't read you

This song is actually supposed to be about someone with an ASD, the first time I heard the lyrics they sent a chill down my spine, I had to search for the meaning and they are infact about autism/AS. I can only listen to this when in a good mood because I start feeling sorry for myself if I listen to this song when I'm in a bad one
Dream theatre - Solitary shell

oh this is another one too. even though it's actually about drunk driving but the lyrics kind of also sound like someone who is frustrated with how their life is going. This is the song that got me interested in SP and then i heard welcome to my life and that one fit me even more, lol.

Unititled (how could this happen to me?) - Simple Plan

inronically, the car in the video that the girl is driving is a 1995 trans am, very similar to the one i own which is black. i did test drive a silver one before i bought the black one though, how weird, lol.

Oh gosh, I remember it and it was everywhere. I used to always sing along to it. I still know the words and I'm no Goo Goo Dolls fans.
I'm sorry but I'm having difficulty accepting that anyone in Greenday or Simple Plan have AS. Don't they write their own songs?

I posted awhile ago the song Afloat by Evermore. That song fits me. Just that my life feels like a sinking ship, which are some words in the song. Evermore is what I listen to when I'm in a low mood. And now I sing Evermore songs to my kitten so she will sleep.
I relate to a lot of Motion City songs because I think the singer had suffered from anxiety. One song especially is 'When You're Around.'
Another song is Autumn Shade by The Vines. Craig actually has AS so he has a few songs in there that I can relate to.
Oh and who can forget Embrace's song 'Building'?
I can't get what I want.
I'm a failure.
Nothing seems to work out like the way I plan.
I Can't express the way I feel, the way I feel.
Without f***ing something else up.
And I feel like a failure.

yes they write their own songs. I'm not saying i know for sure but i did read somewhere that lots of simple plan's songs sound like someone dealing with aS or the like. especially "welcome to my life" "perfect" and "i'm just a kid" all are about someone not fitting in with the rest of the world.

I actually had tickets to a SP concert in chicago in 2008 but pierre, the lead singer got sick and they had to cancel the show. I don't really do concerts and i was a bit afrid of the place the show was going to be at since it was supposedly 1100 tickets and standing room only but i really wanted to see them since i feel like i really connect with their music.
