The Lion King had always been my main special intrest since it was first released in 1994. It's even the basis for my current meerkat special intrest. Lion King will always hold a special place for me because it was my first REAL special intrest I actualy can remember the thrill of. The core reason TLK was so appealing to me was the fact that human beings are 100% absent. There is no evidence of them whatsoever. Even as a toddler, I was a misanthrope and found the human form replusive. My special intrests are somewhat sacred to me and chaging them in ANY way is a capital offense. When I first saw the costume designs for the Lion King Broadway show, I thought I was dreaming. Surely no one would do such a horrible thing. How dare they put human faces on the icons I had come to know as friends and change the relics I had come to know. It was as if they had been defaced or grafittied. When I first saw the set design and character design for the TLK Broadway show, I felt as if I had been mentaly and emotional raped. Other so called TLK fans tell me I am being stupid. I've come to become extremly distrustful of so called fans of my special intrests.

Is it just me, or do you also find it disturbing when someone comes along and changes your special intrests?

It's just you. I have never had this experiance. In fact I get excited when someone also shares my obsession or has the same interest as me or also has the same favorite movie. Then that means I have someone to talk to them about and they won't get bored.

well, my prime special interest they can't change, technically - all they can do is change the journals and the departments so as to fill them with people who think strangely if at all and edge me ouit of a job.

BUT - I do hate and despise and feel somethig like violated when they take music and lit I care about and destroy it. "El Condor Pasa" - great piece of instrumental Andean music turned by Simon and Garfunkel into a caricature of a song "rather be a hammer than a nail" - pah, and what does it mean anyway?

Or what the TV dramatization did to Horatio Hornblower, with whom I identified from my teens, completely missing the point of the thing and turning it into more wishy washy life lessons and political statements.

So I get it.

Maybe Autistic savants see it differently than mere Aspies or Autistics who are not savants. For me, it is more of a panic when others try to push me outside my narrow ranges, because I cant do things I'm not specifically trained in and know. My skills are not transferrable generally, the way they are for neurotypicals. It is hard to explain if someone is not a savant.

During my Hellsing obsession, I felt "violated" when Twilight became popular, because it meant that being into "vampires" was what every teenage girl was doing, and that I would no longer be unique. What upset me more than that, I was feeling that the masses were not becoming attached to the right kind of vampires; that they needed to be obsessing over real bloodsuckers rather than the sparkly vegetarian kind, mostly because whenever I said "I like vampire movies" people automatically went "Oh, you like Twilight?".

I'm so happy I learned that movie characters don't need to feed on blood or sleep in a coffin in order to be brooding, dark and handsome.

It's not just you. Music is my obsession, and I get upset when people cover pieces/songs that I like and change them. Usually it's because they've changed them for the worse, but sometimes when I calm down I actually like the new arrangements.

Yes. I cried when they brought out that travesty they call "D&D fourth edition". That's not D&D; it's a glorified strategy game. There's no imagination in it.

Yes.
I hate it when anyone becomes interested in something I am interested in.
But I never know when someone becomes interested in the music I like.
My sister hates the music I like because it is not mainstream, it has odd time signatures and is very dense, music- and melody-wise.
And I hate her singing voice.
It is really truly horrible.
It has some second sound that comes out when she sings, it is like she is stabbing my ears.
But when I openly state my hate for a song, suddenly I am being weird and no one else is to blame.
This household is full of double standards.
Even at school, teachers will literally tell me to act normally.
When I ask them how that would be, they think I am being a smart-ass and they get even angrier.
One time my fellow students told me I ask obvious questions and they gave that question as an example.
These are by the way, the same people who think that autistics who stim too much or do not like to be touched are harming the image of autistics.

Sorry for that tangent.

I feel very violated, when people try to change my special interests.

I remember I pissed off a Johhny Depp fan at fanfiction with two B&J stories I wrote. She left two nasty reviews and said I killed the movie. B&J was also one of her favorite movies. I thought she was stupid for getting upset over a fictional story and it was obvious she targeted me because she didn't flame other stories written by others. I could have reported her but I didn't. Maybe she targeted me because I have AS. I did several aspie stories so it made it obvious. Yeah people like to target certain people. Maybe she felt invaded so she took it out on me.

The good thing about PnP RPGs is you can always find people who play the old editions. I'm a particular fan of Heroe System wich was butchered. However I have all the old books and a group of friends that we some day hope to get together and play again.

Now days I play MMORPGs. It can be quite tramatic when things get change as a new expansion is released. I played Everquest for 5 years and totally went cold turkey when EQ2 came out because of this. Now after 5 years of WoW I'm at the tipping point again. I'm actually pondering just going back to PnP RPGs again if I can find a good group here locally.

There is a new Bridget Jones film coming out next year, and I was very upset when I found out that Hugh Grant wouldn't be in it. His character is awesome (despite being the bad guy, he's hilarious). My friend said they could just get another actor to play the character, but there's no way that would work. And I don't see how it could be any good without that character, because the film is supposed to be based on the columns Helen Fielding wrote in 2005 (after the first two films), and they would have to completely change the plot.

Maybe he will be in it, though. The articles I have read about the new film are all contradicting each other anyway.

I know this is kind of off-topic for the nature of the thread, but I just wanted you to know that even though I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan, I would never flame you or anyone else for choosing to put his character(s) in the situations that others might not agree with. That's because I've come up with some pretty unorthodox Depp-character fanfiction myself. :)
