'Tassit' test: any good?
I've had lots of tests done and one of them was called the Tassit (not sure about spelling) test. I had to watch a bunch of Australian people and decide their feelings by looking at them. I'm confused. Apparently, despite the fact that I could only Identify happy sad and angry, my results do not indicate AS. I thought people only with more severe autism couldn't recognise even the most extreme emotions (corect me if I am wrong) but now they saying that I don't have AS after all even though I HAD it a year ago... I was diagnosed two years ago becausse I fit the criteria but now I don't... I can't have got better so what's going on?
I am distressed right now...

I think you learned about the facial expressions but the 'professionals' sometimes think we can't do that. I'd say you still have AS because once you have it you have it, it's a way the brain functions (to my knowledge).

I can see more obvious emotions from facial expressions (I may even be able to see more subtle ones... I don't know!) and I was diagnosed despite this. I wouldn't accept the idea that it means you don't have Asperger's Syndrome.

I have too many years in academia not to know - three experts and a peer-reviewed publication does not make it so.
With all due respect to a profession many of whose practitioners are fine, dedicated, experienced people, dealing with the brain is trying to find your contact lense in a dark and crowded stadium.
What is, is, a yea or nay diagnosis can only draw a stick-figure caricature of reality.
I don't know anything about the TASIT test. I was trying to find info on just assessments of adults with autism, but I've yet to find it. But I've not been looking for very long. I did find some general info on the TASIT if you'd like to read it. It was in the form of a power point but I just chose HTML, that's why it looks so weird.
But with that being said, I would have to agree with the others, just because you performed well on a standardized test, doesn't mean that you don't have AS. There is a difference between observing behavior and being an active participant...IMO. It's much easier to only observe.
TASIT
Here's some highlights:
PART 1: Emotion Evaluation Test
* 28 videos, 7 emotions
*"The TBI (Traumatic brain injury) group were significantly worse than controls, especially on fear and neutral items."
PART 2: Test of Social Inference - Minimal
*"examines understanding of conversational meanings that are determined facial expression, tone of voice, gesture"
* 15 videos
* 4 questions each video
* "TBI group performed normally on sincere exchanges but were poor on sarcastic exchanges"
PART 3: Test of Social Inference - Enriched
* "assesses the ability to use contextual knowledge, i.e. visual and verbal information to derive meaning"
* 16 videos
* contains and untrue comment
* "The TBI speakers were poorer than normal speakers on sarcasm but not lies"
I'd look funny at people who base a diagnosis on a single test that's measuring a single symptom out of hundreds.
I'm good with your basic emotions, and sometimes more, it's just that I can't do it "in person" because it's too hard to look at people; if people were pictures, I'd have no problems for the most part.
I was diagnosed with AS at Attwood's, and they seem to know what they're doing in that regard.

Thanks everyone. I am really struggling at the moment because they think I am mentally ill and I am quite scared to be honest. I can't help but think that maybe this place (a specialist care home for people with autism) is too used to seeing the more 'extreme' cases of AS/autism and when someone like me with average intelligence and quite good communication skills comes in it just confuses them... Heck that's ASD for you it is different in EVERYONE!! ! I wish these people would stop trying to tell me I don't have it though it is really freaking me out.
Any more comments are most welcome
