Example (like right now)... painting a wheel. The cheap paint I'm using is spraying spots of thinner even though I shook it vigorously for at least two minutes. The difference between paint and a computer is there's no backspace. I try to correct it, my correction just makes the situation worse. Frustration ensues... I really want to punch someone. I expected perfection and I'm not getting it, in fact I'm getting trash. I have to restrain myself not to break something.

Is this an aspie trait, or is it just me?

im like this also it may well be aspie related

nothing frustrates me more than when the image in my mind wont transfer to paper i always expect perfection though it rarely turns out that way

fury does insue lol as does the destruction of something i may or may not regret later though my habit of beating other people for it has improved over the years

I haven't gone as far as beating anyone up since around middle school. I figure taking out my problems on people who don't deserve it is not an admirable trait.

Restraining myself can be difficult though.

The most productive thing to do is to find another project and let the paint dry for at least a few hours, sand it down and start over again and hope for better. But I don't want to switch gears. At all.

I'm not sure if the is related to AS, because I'm not dx'ed, but I definitely can relate to what you are saying.

If I get frustrated I may feel like breaking something but it's improbable that I would. Usually, if I'm alone, I will rant and swear...and if I'm extremely frustrated, I will cry. If I'm in public, I usually wont rant, but I'll cry.

I don't cry (I've known some people - guys - that do and I try to be understanding) but I do run my mouth like I've got tourettes (unless I'm in a place or time where I can't get away with it). I never give up in the face of frustration, which can be both a blessing and a curse. I need to give up for now and come back later.

It would be hard for a guy to cry in public. It's not generally socially acceptable for a guy to cry....it's strange that it is okay for a girl though. At least you are understanding.

I'm glad you're taking a break and I hope you can get your project worked out. Good luck!! :)

I was absolutely right. I needed to give it a rest and start over.

That's great to hear. :D

How did you manage to resolve the issue?

I spent an hour polyurethaning a giant poster of Rod Blagojevich to the wall, and then went out for some falafel. When I got back, I stripped off all of my previous work and redid it.

Mmmm...falafel. I haven't had that in a long time.

I would have definitely needed time to cool down before I could strip everything off and start over again. At least you were able to start over and could salvage the project.

Felafel is a good stress reliever.

I have read that having a low frustration tolerance is common in those with AS. I know that mine is very low and I have hit and broken several of my belongings in anger. It's so hard to control, like it's just over-flowing out of all of my limbs at once.
