Not sure if this is strange but does anyone else wish that people at work would stop talking to them?

I'm getting really fed up at work of people talking to me or more specifically being aggravating and obnoxious. I don't know how to cope with it because on the one hand I can see that what they have said is supposed to be "joking" or is said out of pure stupidity. But it drives me crazy because It plays like a record in my head and it really gets under my skin.

I wouldn't mind but in between being quiet I do my best to never be rude to them. I just don't get it.. I don't know how to not let these things bother me so much. I could have happily punched a couple of people today and if I had of I would have been at fault. Someone even sarcastically pointed out that I have "no patience".. I wonder why? What cretins if I could afford to quit I would.

Also I sit next to most aggravating person in the entire world.. Who spent all day clicking his pen off and on, over and over again. Give me strength!!

I always hated the 'kaffee klatsch' bunch. It wouldn't be so bad when people stand around talking loudly about uninteresting things if they didn't also expect you to join in just as enthusiastically.

It's especially strange, in my opinion, since work is supposed to be about, y'know...work?

Will your boss let you wear an Ipod at your desk - or earplugs?

I've experienced my fair bit of workplace hell. Not the same type you're speaking of, in this thread. I've been getting my work done, before the 2 hour shift was over, getting it done in an hour and 20 minutes. That wasn't good enough for my supervisor. She wants me to keep up with the rest of the crew, and be done at the exact same time. An hour and 20 minutes wasn't good enough for her. I had to be done, at the exact same time as everybody else, who was done in an hour and 10 minutes. The boss gives us two hours pay. I was done my section in an hour and 20 minutes, and my supervisor wanted me to be done sooner, with the rest of the crew, because that wasn't good enough for her. After nearly passing out at the large garbage bins, behind the shoe store, both of my last two days there, I've decided to quit.

Examples, please.
I do not do well with descriptions.
I may have a bit of an idealised view of a work environment, as I think it is better than school because you get paid and you only do one thing.
You can however get fired which will seriously mess up your schedule.

OP, I've never actually had a job, but I can definitely relate. I've felt like you describe in the schools I've attended, as well as other situations (relatives, acquaintances).

We all do. And some of us wish they would start listening while they're at it.

Its just NT blabbering. I can't stand it. I paint the outside of houses to get away from it . They even try to bother you when you are ten meters off the ground holding onto a set of ladders.

I have the utmost, profound admiration for anyone who withstands this for prolonged periods of time. You truly are an elite group of Aspies.

Yes. In my case it's not just at work, though it's more common there. Possibly because I'm very aware of the fact that I never asked for colleagues, they were thrust upon me .....in my private life I don't usually have to let anybody near me if I don't want to.

I had to smile at the subject title - workplace hell - it's so hard for me to conceive of a workplace being anything other than that. Welcome to my poxy world :(

I'm an engineer. Most of the people I work with are also engineers and while they can be a bunch of cantankerous bastards, I think we tend to be on the same wavelength about these things for the most part.

you know, no matter how many times I experience this, I *always* think they really want to talk. About real stuff. And have substantial conversations. It blows me away that I am 41 and yet I make this mistake on pretty much a daily basis. They don't want to 'communicate' anything, anyway. Except the fact that we are all the same generic people and unthreatening to each other, everything their parents ever told them is the absolute truth, the government is trustworthy and the papers don't lie. Every thing is fine, so let's reassure each other. Once we realize we agree on everything and our experiences are identical, we can be friends or lovers or something. If we are different or disagree somehow, the world will end in a fiery explosion. That's why they always look at me funny when I catch paradox and contradiction and irony.

Sorry just thinking out loud. But you are right, it is 'banter', you are just supposed to move your mouth and make sounds but the purpose isn't talking. It's like air fellatio or something. I'm feeling icky just thinking about it.
