I have observed that some here change avatars, in some cases frequently.

Why would that be?

IF I found something suitable, and got it in place, it would rarely change.

I like to change mine depending on my moods.

Perhaps you have a very stable sense of self. Some people seem to use avatars as a revolving image displayer.

Why don't you have an avatar? Don't think you've ever had one. IF you found something suitable... what would that look like?

I started a thread about avatar usage here... join in!

I change mine when it 'feels' right. Moods, or boredom. Feeling like my current 'face' doesn't represent my current 'self'.

I would never have changed mine until I recently learned about people using other people's photos for less than legitimate purposes.

I'm just too lazy to change mine.

My avatars change with my moods.

I've had ten, and I've been a member for fourteen months. I get interested in different things, and sometimes change my avatar to reflect what I'm interested in. Now it's Camus (I have been interested in him for a couple of years), but it's been things like Doraemon, 神奈川沖浪裏, abstract art, The Beatles (once), and The Thinker.

I've been too lazy to change mine too. I also change it based on mood and I decided to put my son in there. I've been wanting to do it for a few weeks but never did because I felt it would make me sn attention whore. But since a few members here have had their kids in their avatar I don't see why not. It was based on my feelings. Proud to be a mother.

You should be proud to be a mother. Mothering is a proud profession. :D

Glad you did! That is one fine baby there, Mama!

But of course, he got that smile from you, eh?!

Thanks for insights.

As to me -

I tend to emphasize stability and minimize mood swings which are uncomfortable for me. I know people who swing ten points up - ten points down several times a day [not counting lateral swings. I go up or down about two points, maybe every three days, and do back to the baseline within an hour.

I have avatared elsewhere - tried here and something went wrong - never got around to trying again.

If I did try and succeed, it would be one of three -

a picture of St Jerome - an ennea-5 language guy like me

OR

a rather strange picture off my 1970s International driving permit

OR

one of the pictures I posted in the thread that was collecting childhood pictures.

In another venue I changed once - I think from Jerome to the license.

I'm trying to get used to looking at my face so I'll be less negative about it.

I haven't been here that long, but on other online forums of which I'm a member I tend to choose one avatar (different for each one) and never change it. I prefer it when people don't, actually...since it gives me a quick way of recognizing who's making the post. I associate their posts with their avatar. Otherwise I have to read their username and then try to remember who they are.

I can't even see my avatar so there's no point to change it. I may change it when my hair style changes. But again, I can't even see the picture.

If your avatar is still set to display the picture you used to have, then the picture itself was somehow lost or deleted.

I know that one. Still not adjusted to leejosepho's ostrich.
