The past few days I am so into my special interest that I am irritated to stop for anything like a shower, eating, cleaning house etc. I wish I could find more balance, or maybe just enjoy where I'm at for now.

any suggestions, Should I strive for balance or abandon all else for a while and concentrate on my special interest?

I'm lucky to earn a living with my special interest, but I think I over do it sometimes.

I try to strive for balance so I don't burn out on my current interest.

What I might do at times is take an off shoot of my interest for a while just to get a mental break.

So I might search out some reading material about my interest, rather then actual thing. It seems to calm my brain down a bit so that I can then stop reading and go do a few other things that need to get done.

Sometimes with SI's you can think and think and get no solution for days. If you go and do something else, even if you don't like doing it first, ( you know that feeling ) after a while it won't seem so bad, and you can look at your interest from a different angle when you return to it. Seemingly impossible solutions reveal themselves. Its like you can't see it all at one because its too big and doing something else, even if its totally boring like cleaning or earning some cash
moves your position in relation to the big thing you are trying to figure revealing a different aspect of it.

The Internet is my #1 special interest. If anybody tries to get me off the Internet at my clubhouse, and there's a bunch of people in the communications room, than I could become very irritated, if I'm having a bad day, to begin with. The Internet to me, is the blood that pumps through my body, even more so, than The Kinks. I'm hooked on the Internet. I'm addicted to the Internet. The Internet is my drug. I need to get away from my drug for a couple of hours, this afternoon. I can go swimming with a group of people from my clubhouse.
