I'm an autie and I absolutely love action movies. It's a genre of cinema that I love more than any other genre out there. For me, there is no better visceral thrill than watching a well filmed gunfight. You wouldn't think that'd be the case with me since my screenname comes from a artsy french movie, but I like all kinds of movies, but action films are the kind of movies that I'm the most passionate about.
Granted a lot of action movies that we get nowadays aren't up to snuff, since now they try to inject "gritty realism" (Despite the fact that most movies that claim that aren't all that realistic anyways), shakey-cam (The cancer that's killing action cinema as far as I'm concerned.), and pretty boy actors that lack the charisma of the action stars of yesteryear.
I grew up on the best action movies, like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, The Rock, Face/Off, Desperado, Commando, Predator, The Rambo movies, Hard-Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow 1 and 2, among others.
It's a genre that I honestly feel doesn't get a whole lot of love these days, which is truly a pity.
i totally agree. i absolutely despise today's any kind of movies. the 80's and 90's were the best years for action movies. today's movie are boring like you said there's no dark appearance to the main characters of action movies instead thses days, every movie that's coming out is boring. i just turned 20, by the way.
Heck yeah, a fellow fan of 80s and 90s action flicks!
Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs with the way action movies are these days. If you wanted something that was more akin to the action movies of yesteryear, you'd have to turn to direct to DVD action flicks. Some can be quite good. One of which was a movie called Hard-Justice that was quite entertaining. Sure, it had a couple scenes that ripped off John Woo's Hard-Boiled (The warehouse shootout at the beginning), but it was a fun romp.
And of course, I have faith with Sylvester Stallone for keeping the action genre alive. I loved the last Rambo movie, and I'm really excited for his next movie, The Expendables.
