My 13 year old is on Vyvanse currently, and has been for the last three months or so. It seemed to work great for a couple of weeks, and my son likes it, but I don't see that it's helping him anymore. We went to an IEP meeting with my son last week, and I could really see from the teacher's perspective what my son is like when meds aren't working -- he just could not pay attention at all in this meeting. There were only six adults and my son, in this meeting -- so I can only imagine how much harder it is for him to pay attention in a big classroom with 25+ students and a lot more distractions.

I'm reading about others who have taken Vyvanse only to have it lose effectiveness relatively quickly, so I wanted to check this forum and see what other's experiences were.

Up the dose or switch to a non-stimulant (e.g. Atomoxetine).

Also consider this:

As opposed to Adderall, which contains roughly 75% dextroamphetamine and 25% levoamphetamine, lisdexamfetamine is a single-enantiomer (dextro) amphetamine formula. This pure formulation may reduce side-effects, but certain individuals exhibit a better clinical response to the mixed isomer preparation, and so choose Adderall XR or equivalent generics.

What dosage is he taking? perhaps he's become tolerant to the current dosage and needs it to be increased to get back to where he was when he started out on the drug.

Has he tried adderall?

We did try adderall two years ago. He seemed to be somwhat depressed when he was on it, so we took him off. I am not sure at all if what I was seeing was depression, or not. I have called the doctor, and we will be trying Focalin next. If that doesn't work, then we will try the patch (can't remember the name -- Daytrana?). If those don't work, we are up a creek without a paddle.
