My work/business absolutely IS one of my special interests (perhaps my main Special Interest).

How about you.

Poll included for those who don't want/need to comment

I would like to start a business that is my special interest. I feel that I like some of the necessary skills to run a business effectively and need a mentor / partner to handle some aspects of management and most communication.

Business and the financial system are two of my main obsessions.

Not these days - the management saw to that.
There have been times when I've made a special interest out of my paid work, but managements have always eventually moved me off it onto something new, and after that happened a couple of times I just lost interest. Power has been getting more and more centralised and interference comes from further and further away from the people who have to actually do the job...awareness that glib edicts will periodically reshuffle everything I've tried to organise, has helped to ruin my motivation.

If I had been focussed on these two subjects at your age (instead of just long distance running) I would be independently wealthy by now.

You go for it :thumright:

I work in my special interest and work is fun almost all the time. I am not the owner or boss. I am just the brains of the company. I do most of the planning and figure out how to fix problems we run into. Someone else handles the employees, another person handles the money, and yet another makes friends with the clients. We all rely on each others talents to get ahead in the world as a group.

Good strategy :)
