Not like the other kids or however they say it.

I realized this when I was 4 and all the kids would be mingling and I would just stand there by myself.

While most children were huggy and playful i just played by myself and when people spoke to me I ignored them didnt meet their eyes

I got diganosed at 15, wish it were sooner. I know some of you didnt get diganosed until your adulthood.

When was the first time you or someone else noticed something "off"

Age 5 (early September, 1962), when the other kids jumped me and beat me up after school for reciting the alphabet and the times-table (1 x 1 through 20 x 20) in kindergarten.

About age 5. Kids looked at me funny, and didn't want to play with me.

I think their parents told them that I was a "ret*d."

I began having behaviour problems when I was about 5, so I suppose that made me feel different to the rest of the kids.

I would say I knew when I was five years old.

I was 8. It was when I just grew more violent and starting to distrust people partially because of said realization.

At 5, I didn't knew I was the odd one out.
Even as obvious as playing with 7-10 year old street boys on a more dangerous playground on daily basis, instead of other girls of the same age or even think about how or why as to whether or not to be with them. Even after knowing as the only girl who does this and that... Even seeing that I'm not mingling or joining in, even after failing at it.

Even after being bullied -- that's not an enough 'alarm' for me, even after as the one who always have an outburst, even after knowing I'm particularly violent and would wander around, even after being dubbed as a tomboy, even if I was scorned and had anyone point at me in front of the principal, even misnaming several kids at school, even after being rejected, even after being explicitly told that I'm weird.

I was at least THAT emotionally and socially delayed, compensating for something else (PIQ).

My memories from 0-7 are very poor . I think when I went to prep school at 8 there was a vague feeling I was "different" . It became more pronounced when I went to public school at 13.

Around 7.

Got worse at around 14/15 I'd say, during high school and puberty. Although there was a lot less awareness of, and focus around autism back then.

I feel like it didn't occur to me to notice I was different for a long time, even though I was wandering around playing alone on the playground in 3rd-4th grades, and reading all the time on breaks instead of talking to people. And I remember not knowing what to do around other kids, but not realizing that made me different. But I can remember in junior high the girls in my gym class were arguing about whether the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC were better or hotter or something, and I could not have cared less.

It was obvious to me in kindergarten, at age 4. I could clearly see that the other kids thought and acted differently and incomprehensibly.

I always thought of myself as "less than" others, and I lived in a social anxiety hole. It only occurred to me that I am "different" really recently. Adulthood.

I somehow always felt different because I couldn't relate to others, even if I was similar to them. I had serious behavioral problems and as I got older they inverted and I became shy. I had tenuous relationships and always had roughly one friend. Strangely though I could make a good leader when one was necessary.

I have no memories of not feeling different.

the same, at 4 when i went to *whatever its called to you* school
that seemed nightmarish- dirty kids i couldn't even understand
i assume i had the understanding that it would be a thing for the big kids
but most kids were creepy to me
still it worked out, i dreaded most those mingling-with-other-schools-occasions
when i was put forward in primary school, things got problematic

"this is bat country"
