Any GI Joe fans out there?
I was reading some Joe comics, and noticed that quite a few characters seem to come off as possibly on the spectrum. Deep Six for one. Also if you look into the Cobra pilot Wild Weasel.
I'm going to transcribe the text from the datafile in G.I. Joe: America's Elite.
"Nothing frustrates me more than facing an enemy who has won the respect of so many of my troops. To the G.I. Joe team, Wild Weasel has proven himself to be the best man to shoot them out of the sky. Those soldiers lucky enough to return from a dogfight with Wild Weasel curse his name only at the beginning and end of their stories; the rest is filled with compliments and awe. I'm told that there's no one alive with the skills in the cockpit that Wild Weasel possesses.
Very few Joes have seen Wild Weasel on the ground, as he's rarely down long enough to encounter, let alone fight face-to-face. Those who have gotten close enough to him have noted that his eerie speech impediment is just as intimidating as his maneuvers in the sky. It's rumored that he obtained this as a result as a mouth injury received during the time he spent in the bush wars of South America and Africa. There is no known photograph of Wild Weasel without his helmet, so besides not knowing what he actually looks like, no one can say for sure the extent of the disfigurement. Considering that he has never been seen without his helmet would lead one to believe that the damage is extensive, indeed.
What little information regarding Wild Weasel we have gleaned from the Cobra prisoners over the years has taught us that he is extremely socially stunted, and shunned by the other Cobras. Apparently. the ego he has earned in the sky tends to translate into his time on the ground. He has no friends within the Cobra organization, and prefers to spend his time in the air, perhaps in part to avoid direct contact with other people.
None of the agents on the current roster are as experienced or capable a pilot as Wild Weasel is, and very few of the reserve members can match his airborne abilities. This alone makes me fear the day Wild Weasel resurfaces as an active threat."
After reading the Rolling Stone article of Clay Marzo, I found that his social abilities and surfing skills seem to slightly akin to the fictional Wild Weasel.
What do you think?
I'm actually a HUGE G.I. Joe fan, literally been obsessed with the four inchers since I got my first ones when I was around 2 or 3. They were pretty much the only toy I would ever play with, and I was quite vocal about it when my parents tried to get us the cheap knockoffs instead.
Anyway, to try to get back on topic, Wild Weasil was actually one of my favorite figures, but as he was a hand-me-down, I never had his card. Very interesting, and I guess it could be possible, but from reading his bio, I'm also getting a lot of Francis Dollarhyde vibe, a serial killer from the book Red Dragon by Thomas Harris (technically he's also in two movies, but you don't learn much about him in either one).
I'm checking Deep Six's 1989 filecard right now, and that sounds a bit more Aspi-ish to me than Wild Weasil.
I haven't had the opportunity to read any G.I. Joe comics yet, but cooincidentally, I have Classic G.I. Joe Volume 1 coming to me in the mail as we speak, I seriously cannot wait.
