I watched this a few nights ago.
He's supposed to be a shy mechanical genius, but very little was known about Asperger's syndrome when this movie was made.
He seemed very AS/autistic. He spends his whole life building mechanical objects. He has an obsession with trams. There's even a scene where he is drinking where he is monologuing about trams to a girl he is supposed to be on a date with. Then they go back to his place and he's still talking about trams.

The movie was kind of ridiculous because he uses his machines to rob banks but I'll forgive the film. I really enjoyed it.

I don't remember the film, but it's a cute trailer. Looks like fun.

This looks good. I'll have to track it down.

I agree that the character is written with very AS traits in various ways even if the "term" is not used.

I remember this fondly. There's one scene where he's interviewing a house mate, and he just reads a monologue of questions, gets to the end and says" Rent is $X a week.Thankyou"
