I just about finished a letter I want to send to my university b/c I'm annoyed that they sent me (and others) autism speaks fundraising stuff. Its about one page & has a 2nd page with a bunch or bibliographies of sites I used to research autism speaks (to find out what they're up to...) & good autism related resources. I just need to finish a few bib's than I'm done :). Anyone have an idea who I should send it too? (I want to do it anonymously (I plan to not include a return address) but I'm not sure if I should mail it to the dean, disability services, a disability related group on campus, etc.) Any ideas?

Have you thought of sending it to your school newspaper? If it got published it would be some well needed publicity and might help educate people who wouldn't be exposed to these things otherwise :)

That's a decent idea. You'd have to edit it to be shorter, though, because letters to the editor don't get published unless they're only a few sentences.

Who's doing the fundraising? You could call around and ask which department is involved, or examine the propaganda they sent you to see whether it's got a department label on it.

I would mail it to all three. Many good people get their information about autism from TV and radio advertisements, and when a corrupt organization uses these media, people get the wrong information and learn false facts. We need to present them the truth in a nice manner.

Send it to all of the Above and place a "carbon copy" list at the bottom so everyone knows who else is reading the letter.

I don't remember who did the fundraising b/c it was back in february & even if I hadn't deleted the emails, my school email account (where I received them) absolutely sucks.

Great idea, Peko. I'd send it to anyone and everyone who you think might be relevant. It couldn't hurt!

Also, I'm not sure how to mail or deliver this letter: just drop it at the offices somehow & hope I'm not seen by leaving it on the floor or a chair, etc. mail it (but I think you need a return address & I've read that the US postal service, etc. have has issues with anonymous mail since the 9/11 attacks, obviously). Plus I realize I could do this via email, but I don't know how to avoid being traced (I'm on the campus network). Any brainy computer nerds? :D

p.s If I get no responses soon I'll have to go with an anonymous yahoo account & hope it can't be traced to my computer via school network :)

Just a side note: anonymity may not help you with this kind of letter. Administration likes names and faces.

I don't think you need to worry about retaliation in this case.

I see your point, I'd just prefer to do it anonymously b/c I don't want to be getting any attention for it (& if I put my name on it, I'll be recognized quickly by the one disability related group & disability services on campus). Plus, since I can't edit it on my own (& haven't told anyone except WP about it) I can't be sure I'm not conveying something in the wrong way & end up looking "unprofessional" (by college standards anyways). But I may end up having to use my name b/c I'm probably going to have to use my school email account or deliver it myself b/c their is a good chance administration junk mails all non-campus ID'd emails.

Okay, I think ProfessorAspie is right about sending the letter with my name. I think I'm going to try emailing it first to some of the people/groups I mentioned above but skip sending it to the disability related group for now b/c if the DS people are interested in it, they'll probably bring it up b/c I'm mentioning an idea about letting the phoenix group (disability awareness group) look over disability fundraisers from now on. (Plus the Phoenix prez is busy a lot)

Sounds like a good idea :D. How long/short are newspaper articles in comparison to a 1 page 12 point font document?

Well, I try to keep mine to about two hundred words. They do edit longer ones, but you may not like how they do it; so shorter is better. Readers have the attention span of goldfish with ADHD. :P

Wow, I just edited & sent the letter to the main disability services woman & the University president via email & cut the letter down to 200 words for the school newspaper if I want to submit it. Whew...
