My hair is always falling in my face when I'm training at kung fu class, so I like to plait it close to my skull like the female MMA fighters do, to keep it out of my eyes...Do you think this has the wrong connotations? Like, it's for functional reasons, but I don't want to seem like I'm using it to say, Hey, I'm so hard, just like the MMA girls...?

Sounds like a practical solution to a problem...I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Thanks.

I never know when I should ask about s**t like that or just leave it go...Seems trivial, I know, but I didn't wanna send the wrong signals...

To braid or fold pliable material to make a rope, braid or band. Referring to hair, it is more often used in Britain, whereas in North America, "braid," would be used more often.

Thanks everyone!

I just felt like I'm somehow being arrogant...Like the close coiled hair says, Hey, I'm so hard and tough just like a MMA fighter...and I don't mean to send that impression, just want to keep the hair from stinging my eyes..:D

mechanicalgirl39, there is a reason why these girls do their hair this way, it's for the same reason you're doing it, to keep the hair out of the way. I wouldn't worry about connotations, it's a thing you find works for you.

So long as you won't be insulted if anyone compares you to them, then fire ahead :)

Insulted? Why? If someone compared me to them, I hope they'd be talking about my fighting skills and not just my hair! I wish, lol...

ok, that's cool. They may say it to be sarcastic though, so if they try that, just grin and pretend to kick their ass or something!

If you can't be yourself, who can you be?
