Hey, I was just wondering if anyone else felt discomfort when writing by hand (as opposed to typing).

Although I prefer typing over writing, I don't feel any significant discomfort from writing; granted, I do get carpal tunnel from writing a lot, but who doesn't?

It hurts me, but I think a lot of it is lack of practice.

I put a "death grip" on a lot of things, and that produces fatigue and pain when I'm doing several things. You have to have the "right touch" to do penmanship for a long time.

I feel very uncomfortable, when I'm writing by hand. I think that computers and keyboards are the best thing, since sliced bread.

I don't know if other school districts do this but they used to put these stoppers on the pencils in the 90's for kids to learn how to hold the pencil, had grooves for your thumb, fingers, and was always placed at the same position. I used to take mine off and throw it across the room with my friend who had trouble with it too. They would grade our handwriting and I would always get a frown for what I wrote and how I held my pencil, which I held like a steak knife. Throughout my school career every teacher would comment in my reports about how I held my pencil, which later changed to how it was intended with the stopper. Then when they got rid of that ungodly thing in middle school I was free to use whatever way I wanted, and I print very well without the stupid stupid stopper.

I have severe discomfort in my hand and arm and eventually the hand just seizes up. I have hypermobile joints and holding a pencil bends some of them backwards and pops my thumb. I do better with ring splints on my fingers.

I have been typing on the computer more than writing with my hand I can no longer write long using my hand. My hand gets sore and my writing gets messy. I have not done lot of writing since I got out of high school. I just got used to typing, it's like I lost my writing skills. I can only write for a few minutes now without my hand getting sore.

I'm so glad I don't have to write by hand much nowadays. It hurts my hand plus I'm quite slow at it compared to other people. Bizarrely I'm much faster at typing than other people though, dunno how that works.

My hand cramps when I write for a long time, but I still prefer writing by hand whenever I can. I really enjoy the feeling of pencil against paper. It feels more real to me than typing does. It's not pretty though, I doubt most could read it. I do also like typing because I'm good at it, and it's fast, but if I could get away with it I'd stop typing and just write everything by hand, with a pencil - I dislike pens. Markers are okay though, and crayons, but pencils are the best.

I still prefer pencils over pens. My handwriting is neater with a pencil. Odd.

It's physically painful for me, I had to get a special permission in middle school so that I could type rather than hand write anything. I type perfectly fine and without discomfort, if anything I type better than most.

I used to think my handwriting problems were a fine motor problem despite my incredible typing speed. Then I learned my fingers bend when I write in ways most don't. So that's the difference.

I experience discomfort and pain when writing, but also when typing unfortunately. Some days I can barely type at all. I can draw printing legibly and quite neatly (although I have trouble staying within lines and keeping the size even, and maintaining the same slope direction and degree) for short amounts, but I cannot write fluently and if I try it quickly becomes illegible even to me.

I've always had to hold pens and pencils funny, with extra fingers holding it very tightly. In grade school my mother had to buy me these special grip things to put on my pencil. My handwriting is terrible--still.

For me, yes. I hate writing by hand, and will try to avoid it if I can,.
