Does anyone else loose interest in new things?

Whenever you try to get interested in some things other than your special interests, do you immediately loose interest in the new things?

I find it pretty difficult to get interested in some (but not all) new things myself. Whenever I feel like I'm interested in something new, I'll look it up and read about it for a while, but after an hour or so, I loose complete interest in it. That has happened to me so many times, I can't even remember the things I was trying to get into.

I always stay interested in new things.

I figured it would be the opposite.

What a nice question! I am constantly changing minor obsessions, even though I do have a couple of long term ones. That is why my signature line is what it is.

I've tried becoming interested in movies besides ones starring Johnny Depp, but my interest in them never lasted longer than about a week.

I try to get interested in new things, but after a week or two, I lose interest, very quickly.

I lose interest in things all the time. Sometimes the interest comes back but usually it's gone forever. It really sucks.

There a some things that I get interested in and after an hour I'm over it. Some things stick and I'll be interested in them for weeks, months or years but sometimes it just only interests me for a short time, usually to just kill some boredom too.
I go back to the new interest to see if I still like it as much. Usually it's something I see on discovery or history channel and I look into it more, then I think I've spent enough time on it and go back to something else.

I suppose most of us like to do things that are familiar to us and we fall back into the same routine. It's kind of like when I try new clothes but the next day go back to my usual style.

I'm the same. I'll always have an ever changing minor obsessions. One of my current ones is reading/posting WP. In a week, i might stop, and not come back for another year. Its the same for reading Sci-Fi, playing scrabble, memorizing obscure lists of words, emulated gameboy color games... Lacking an obsession is extremely disorienting.

All the time , can i have a new interest and stick with it please

At what age does this special interest behaviour begin?

With me it was my late teens

For me it was when I was ~ 3. Thomas the Tank Engine started it all. Then staring at Maps all day (first grade), then video games from second to seventh grades. Then building polyhedra out of paper (8th grade to now), among others. However, usually I have several minor obsessions, not one major one.

Sure. I get bored with new interests too

Same here, the interest has to have a hook. Like something I may want to buy, or something I want to learn about.
If it's a casual interest I can burn through those like you mentioned in an hour or so.

But if it has a hook, then I get dangerous because I'll read everything I can get my hands on, buy things, study, usually start some kind of notebook...it becomes nuts.

My 3yr old boy does seem obsessed with things for several months then thats it. Appears disinterested. He was obsessive about puzzles last year, now will hardly look at them even when I bring new ones home from the toy library. Was into Thomas but not interested now. Ditto with Lego. Now he's very interested in our car, getting in and fiddling with everything which I happily let him.
He can't talk so can't tell us, so I try to figure him out looking from the outside in.
