This morning as I was going for a snack in my kitchen I looked down and saw something moving across my floor. I jumped back about 5 feet and saw is slither under my fridge. I got out the flashlight and (keeping my distance) I looked under my fridge to see this tiny little snake staring back at me. I chased it out from under my fridge with a spatula and captured it under a bowl.

The poor snake kept trying to get out and I don't think he understood why he couldn't move past the invisible glass wall. The little guy started going in circles trying to find a way out. Luckily I was able to transfer him outside and I let him go in my front lawn. I still don't know how he got into my house..

It is just your garden variety "garter" snake. Obviously, you must live in the country or near meadows and woodlands. I have the same snakes get up on my front shrubs to sun themselves...and my young nephew picks them up and carries them into the woods near my home. I hate snakes!

I have the same issue with little snakes getting into my house. They come in through the corners of doors, or under siding through tiny holes somewhere. I even had a 4 foot adult copperhead in my garage that came in through a little hole in my garage door.

Try putting snake away around the parimeter of your house, particularly in the spring and fall. That works pretty good, and it works on copperheads even though it says it doesn't on the container. Moth balls work also, but I think that's pretty much what snake away is.

I commend your bravery! :hail: I can't even look at a little black snake. I have to get my husband to let it out. I did however, kill my first copperhead last year (after living 9 years in my house). I almost went to get the neighbor but I didn't want to be the helpless damsell in distress so I killed it. I had tremors the rest of the day

Bloody hell - I'm glad we don't have to deal with that sort of thing across the pond.

There are wild snakes in the UK, but they're relatively uncommon and they never come indoors.

We do, however, get spiders - not venomous ones, but they can be extremely large. I'm acutely arachnophobic so I think I'd prefer snakes. :(

Haha. The most dangerous animal in the Uk is the bee. I can't imagine having to deal with a snake in my house. I do have lizards, Black and Brown Widow spiders on my patio. They never set foot inside tho.

8O Oh man! I would be so freaked out by that! Good for you, for being able to stay calm and get him outside.

I've never had a snake in the house. The only critters that sometimes get indoors are ants or spiders and those I can deal with. Snakes creep me out big time, even if I'm walking through the woods and I see one slithering by, I just freeze until it's gone.

We get those around here, also a black snake I am not sure of the name, and red-bellied copperheads (nasty pit vipers-no joke!). Snakes keep away the rodents, so that is actually a good thing. Coral snakes keep away the copperheads, I think is how it goes.

If you don't like snakes, spread powdered sulfur around your house. They don't like that. I have so many dogs and cats around this area that the snakes don't get too close to the house, but I have had to carry them from the yard to the woods from time to time. I am not scared of them, but spiders and palmetto bugs make me cry and freak out.

Me and my mom have a good deal going- I take care of wayward snakes, and she takes care of the creepy crawlies.

It's just a tiny baby, a new snake! Good on you for turning it loose.

You can't keep something like this out of your house unless you hire a hermit to seal the premises.
