I got a 51...and I'm a female.

I thought it was a little biased myself. I think that in order for those questions to be scored correctly, the test taker must generalize each question. For example, there was a question on your interest in the aerodynamics of planes. If you have Aspergers, you may be extremely interested in that subject or not interested in the slightest. It seemed like you had to make generalizations and think to yourself, "I'm not interested in aerodynamics, but am I interested in something similar or something that falls into that same type of interest?" Since people with Asperger's are not very good at generalization (at least I'm not), I want to take each question literally. But even taking the questions literally, I scored way above average.

yeah, i agree - for example i've not been on a plane for over 10 years, so i wasn't sure how to answer that question.

Wel i had about 20.

It seemed to me they just threw 60 authism stereotypes together.
There are proberbly thousends.
If you happened to have alot of these particular 60 stereotypes you score high.
For my way of living and interests few of these stereotypes apply.
About 3-4 of these are impossible for me to understand due to translating problems.
Kinda funny since i'm Dutch and always had the highest scores in my English classes.

35. I am not very meticulous when I carry out DIY.

They like to annoy people with terms like DIY wich proberbly noone outside of America/Canda/Brittain/Australia wil know.
And they can't be bothered to even write down the meaning of it.
Pretty pathetic in my opinion.

Some of these questions are just plain sad.
For instance id tel you what i would have changed these into so that many more people can properly answer them.

2. I adhere to common superstitions.
: This question needs to be much clearer than this 5 word sentance.
And use plain English for people outside of America.

If you would have asked what the word adhere means in Holland hardly anyone would have a clue.
Say something like: Common superstitions apply to me.

5. If I were buying a car, I would want to obtain specific information about the engine capacity.

: If i were to buy a new product such as a car/moterbike/bike/scooter/tractor etc i would like to know the engine capacity.
Not everyone is over 18 you know.

6. When I look at a painting, I do not usually think about the technique involved in making it.

I have no interest whatsover in paintings.
So me answering that wil just mess with my score.
Is there no way of skipping questions like these ?

13. I am fascinated by how machines work.

This just isn't precise enough for me.
For instance.
If i see a documentary about how something is produced from scratch in a factory it does facinate me.
However i couldn't care less how a computer/moterbike/car engine works.
So do i answer yes or no ?

17. When I am relating a story, I often leave out details and just give the gist of what happened.

I have no clue what the word GIST means.
Answering questions in a foreign language is enough trouble for me.
But do they HAVE to use words that alot of people have not heard about ?

20. If I were buying a computer, I would want to know the exact details about its hard drive and processor speed.

Once again a question aimed solely at people interested in details about computer.
Would it not be better to say for instance:

If i were to buy a new computer/tv/stero/dvd player/mp3 player/ipod/ or wichever product is verry interesting to you.
Would you want to know the excact details about it ?

27. The idea of engaging in 'risk-taking' activities appeals to me.

This question seems rather odd to me.
It would seem to me verry few people would do something risky just for the fact u have the risk.

For instance: If i drive at high speeds i do it for fun, not because i enjoy the fact i have a higher risk of being injured.
If i jump from a plane i do it for fun not because it's risky.

This is a dodgy question.

It proberbly should be.
Would you do something that is verry fun even though it might be dangerous ?
Noone would skydive off a cliff just because he might die off of that

43. If I were buying a camera, I would not look carefully into the quality of the lens.

I do not care for cameras, nor have ever bought one so where is my null option

A lot of those questions involve "If I..."

That could be confusing to people who are not used to considering hypothetical situations--so, ironically, people who SHOULD have a higher "systemizing quotient" will get a lower score, because they are being very precise when answering the questions.

My own score was 55--"almost no women score in this range". Hmm... I knew I was more left-brained than most women; but I imagine most Aspie girls would score about in that range, just like me, and still be quite female (albeit without the uncomfortable make-up and "popular girl" silliness).

Re. Words you don't know: Try dictionary.com. It has definitions for most words, and also has a thesaurus function.

Taken with the other (EQ and AQ) tests my scores gave me enough impetus to investigate the possibility of Asperger's a little further. As it proved, a valid suspicion.

The immediate context of the set of tests comes from Simon Baron-Cohen's recent book "The Essential Difference: Men, Women and the Extreme Male Brain" which proposes that "The female brain is predominantly hard-wired for empathy. The male brain is predominantly hard-wired for understanding and building systems." (adapted from site below)

The view of the spread of results obtained definitely indicates male/female differences.

i scored high for a girl a 52

I scored a 43 but I am defintely not impressed with this test. It definetely needs a neutral response among the answers. Like I have not been in a plane so that is not something I would think about - yet you are forced to decide IF you were in a plane what would you think about - that is weird and not accurate.

On the EQ my score was 16 (lol) - most women score 47! I don't know about this one either.
The eye test thing is just too creepy - it made the hair on my arms stand up and I had to put my hand over the screen to block the eyes.

I got the same score as Callista - 55.

the first score was about 27 hmmm I did it again like u said( i generelized every question) and i scored 39 still average but close to autism range ....but still I thin the AQ is far more accurate than this SQ , I feel this test is more for aspies than auties and I have HFA not AS , aspergers are usually are crazy about how machines work and details of the maching . My brother is sooo crazy abt such details of machines and he likes to be alone most of the times and his IQ is more than 135 I know no one else like him , despite he s not dx'ed but I am sure that my bro will score high in this test and I am sure that he s Aspie.
