I live in a quite chavvy area, and I'm often scared to leave my house in fear of being attacked. This has more or less has stopped me going out and doing things. If I do go out I need my parents with me, because im in danger if I go without them. I always need a family member or friend with me because I feel so threatened. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

I'm suffering the exact same as LFO. It's called an "English Public Estate"... The chav's parents all buy the cheap houses on the estate, and the chavs constantly patrol it (as well as some private estates) harassing anyone they can who goes out. If your house is one of the outside houses, be prepared to be pelted/have your house pelted by snowballs in winter (and, in some cases, eggs). If you live beside a park, don't expect to be able to go on that park because, regardless of whether or not you own it, to go on that park will make your life complete and utter misery. They will go on eventually, they will see you, they will cause physical injury and/or diminish your confidence with threats that they have a knife etc. There were times when I've been groin hit and kicked when I was down on that park. Times when both I and my brother had stones thrown at us. Due to this, in my eyes, I view Chavs as the Spawn of Satan.

No.

I'll run out of people* to shoot before I run out of bullets. :P

*This is assuming that everyone turned into homicidal maniacs and attacks me with life threatening violence.

not at all, but the Netherlands is a friendly place to live in, compared to other countries, although there are certain spots that are less safe

I live in a fairly safe area. We don't really have a lot of crime or anything but we do have a lot of drunk driving accidents but I live on a major high-way. The only thing I'm really concerned about in this community is the sex-offender notifications I get in the mail every week or so. Lots of child-molesters & I've known some of my neighbors whose daughters wer running around with older adults & cops wouldn't do anything  I don't really know my neighbors except the ones who live rite next door.

in this dystopian end of the world situation, wouldn't it be more fun to just strangle/garrot and bludgeon folk? i mean, just shooting at 'em from a distance is so antiseptic. getting one's hand's dirty would be so involving, for sure.

i live in a northwest province of "deliveranceville." it is not really safe where i live. if one walks out in the woods, there are uncurbed wild dogs and morally atavistic humans to deal with. one is taking one's life into one's hands when they decide to go walking on the public roads here which all lack sidewalks. my next door neighbors fling garbage in my yard and steal my newspaper, and stare at me when i walk by. i hear gunshots punctuating the chainsaws and dirtbike buzz. there is NOBODY i trust here, nobody i trust any farther than i could throw a piano. good fences here truly make for good neighbors.

I am very unsafe in the community where I live. It's not so much the community itself as I find it's always safe to walk around (except going to the local shops because youths are always hanging around, I never use these shops and shop elsewhere). The problem for me, here and at other places I've lived, has always been the immediate neighbours rather than the community. It's just that I've had terrible luck with neighbours. I live in a stairwell which has been a threatening environment because of this one family as the stair has been a magnet for antisocial behaviour. Youths hang around my stair (and therefore outside my flat) most evenings, there is rowdy, aggressive behaviour there most evenings, and drinking, drugs, vandalism and graffiti have been known. Just last night, having come from the supermarket, I was too scared to go back to my flat because youths were probably there, and went for a walk (with shopping bags) for just under an hour before coming back. How I came to be living here is a long story, as is the fact there's little real prospect of me being able to move. My health is in serious jeopardy because of how I am living.

I wouldn't call the area I live in a community. When I walk the streets round here I'm usually mindful of danger from passing chavs, and I'm more or less ready to start punching. But I'm amazed how the local gentry usually leave me alone.......I think I'm one of those people who doesn't give off "victim vibes." If carrying weapons was legal, I'd carry one. I tend to stick to the main roads especially after dark, and I use my bicycle a lot, which makes me feel a bit safer than being on foot. Thugs make me very angry and I'd love to maim one, just to show him who's boss. Of course I wouldn't break the law.

This thread evokes movies "Eden Lake" and "Harry Brown". Both memorable statements on the state of UK's youth.

wow, that resonates with me- i also have gone the long way home just to avoid people. it sucks to be stuck in a scary place. i can understand about the health being challenged due to the stresses of living in a particularly evil environment. too bad you can't at least live somewhere without stairwells where hoods can troll about.

What can I say, OCD is also an acronym I have attached to my medical file. I'd rather make people lose bodily fluids from my little hide that's located far away from them, thanks.

Yes, yes, it can be hard to justify "defensive" sniping, but I also feel safe in regards to the most probable form of unprovoked assault (12 gauge 00 buckshot fixes these problems).

It's not people I fear, no, it's the germs they carry.

I feel safe and never run into any problems with people. Im germphobic too. Im thinking of getting a conceiled weapons permit though. I have a gun in my drawer in case someone breaks in but hopefully I will never have to use it. As for having one in your house you do not need a permit. Everyone should have a gun in their room unless they think they might do something stupid with it. Especially if you live around crime areas.

As far as I know, in the UK the assailant has to strike the first blow, or at least give reasonable grounds for you to believe that they pose a strong threat to your health. You are then entitled to use reasonable force to defend yourself because you thought they were going to kill you or whatever. Contrary to popular opinion, reasonable force can exceed any violence that they've already done to you. As long as you thought they were about to seriously harm you, you can practically kill them......but the moment they retreat, fall over or otherwise clearly cease their attack, you're on shaky ground. Many attacks are carried out when there are no witnesses around.....I guess if they tried to prosecute you for a criminal offense, the burden of proof would be on the prosecution, so it wouldn't stick unless they found your knife in his back or something. Don't do anything to provoke the attack in the first place, and warn them before you strike back - though without witnesses, a lot of this stuff is impossible to prove one way or the other.

It's amazing what some people have got away with in self-defense. A burglar in the UK was beaten severely with an iron bar by two guys whose home he'd broken into. The judge threw out his case and told him he'd deserved all he got. :D But you might get a different judge.

PS these are just tentative guidelines - I really haven't scrutinised my ideas.....so check your local laws before taking any action. And you won't do your case any good by blurting out your interest in over-the-top revenge on a public board like I more or less have.
