Hi Melinda, Stephen has multiple kinds of seizures, grand mal, atonic, and myclonic which cause him to become disoriented and aggressive. He was denied being admitted to OU Med Ctr 3x's on April 3rd, 4th, and 5th because the hosp said they were not equipped to deal with his autism. Two police officers Stephen hit on our 3rd trip witnessed the hospital deny treatment and said if they filed charges he could at least get treament at the county jail. After he was in custody it took 9 days for a Judge to write an order for him to be taken by ambulance to a hospital about 80 miles from where we live for treatment. He came home on May 4th. Stephen suffered greatly by being put through this and is now missing a front tooth. The news link is on Youtube: Type in 'Autistic Man Arrested'. Thank you for contacting me and sharing this.

I am not surprised to see this and this is not only in Oklahoma but in the entire USA. Many parents are finding that their autistic children are in the gray areas were services are not offered and pleas are falling on deaf ears to a broke government. I think the future will be that we will hear about stories like this more often.
That is a sad story but probably not as unusual as one might think. I remember in the late 1960's being put in jail numerous times (adult jail; I was 15) because they weren't sure what to 'do' with me. Mom took me to the hospital once during a bad time and as soon as I got in they gave me a shot that knocked me out so fast I ended up on the floor of the ER. Commitment hearings, threats, restraints. And of course forced meds; you didn't have to take them BUT if you chose not to then an injection would be forthcoming in about 30 minutes. It was all in the name of safety and 'keeping order'. Ah, the land of the free, that is, of course unless you didn't quite 'fit in'. I'm betting that no matter how bad things seem now, it can never be as bad as it was 40-50 years ago.
