This is one of the few topics I wanted to ask about and know about, I've always had an interested in firearms & weapons ; i've had small concern from a controlling-parent & a few sisters that think and treat me like im some kind of idiot-psycho ever since I learned i've AS and I maybe stuck taking Abilify soon when I myself told the doctor that I refuse to take anti-psychotics.

Yet, I share a small apartment with my little sister who also plans to go back to school soon, I know how to
clean a house, pay bills & cook my own meals.

I wanted to own a firearm soon for just protection & target shooting & fearful I'll be barred permenantly
cause of a US laws now requiring that my medical records be looked into (which I think is unconstitutional & a violation of my privacy, my rights and my choices) before I purchase a firearm; And even if i attempt to purchase one, Im fearful i'll be charged with prejury if I answered "no" on certain questions or be barred and antagonized by the shop owner If i said "yes".

To point out; I very much obey the law; I've a clean police record and never got introuble with the law and I myself can recognize a person's emotions & I can tell when my life is in danger against someone and I've never be violent towards anyone (yet im kinda fustrated that I might be taking an anti-psychotic soon)

What should I do or what can be done?

you wont be charged with perjury for lying on a gun application. Although I'm pretty sure its easy to get a gun in Florida even if you write on the application that you plan on using it to shoot people.

You cant be stuck taking an anti-psychotic without a court order. As for your other things there's nothing you can do except try and see. Maybe you should ask advice from a lawyer first?

They shouldn't be able to restrict you. That's very unconstitutional.

My parents have concel carry permits and are always saying I couldn't have one because of the AS or autism or whatever label they are using on my records. My parents say I would be too trigger happy and blast anyone who so much as looked at me. I think I could learn who to shoot and who not to and I seem to make such an easy targer I think a gun or knife would be a good idea for me just in case. I personaly perfer knifes becuase they never run out of ammo.

I'm not sure about US law, but I don't think aspergers will prevent you owning a firearm.

If you have another underlying mental condition though, that may rule you out.

As far as I know, the only thing in your med records that could be held against you is if you were institutionalized.

Medical conditions, in and of themselves, can not be used to deny your 2nd Amendment rights. If they try, call the NRA.

This is also why I REFUSE to put down my Social Security Number when going to any doctor. Most anything in your records are traced by that number. Leave it off, and there is no way to prove it's you. Heck, use an assumed ID whenever you can. So long as the doctor is paid, there is nothing wrong about it.

I don't see why it should keep you, from doing so.

No, but one can be charged with falsifying information on a state or federal document. You might want to check a little more before you start offering legal advice.

Myself and one other guy I know who is an Aspie own assault rifles and are very strict about safety and maintance of our firearms. We never had an accidental discharge or a severe weapon malfunction. I can name five NTs who I shoot with who have accidental discharges and blown out barrels.

If anything, we need guns even more than the general population. We are socially disadvantaged, so this pretty much makes us more appealing targets for victimization. Anyone who thinks AS means you shouldn't have a gun is a sorry a** excuse for a human being.

To the best of my knowledge, AS is not a brick wall to gun ownership. Now, if you are diagnosed for depression/suicide, that will get in the way.

I would very much suggest that you touch base with the local NRA folks, law library and/or legal clinic for your legal options.

Good luck!

I don´t know about new regulations. I saw one episode of "30 days" that a girl worked at a gun shop in the U.S. and the only thing they asked about mental health was if the person had ever been institutionalized as zer0netgain mentioned.

Well, I know my state is VERY RELAXED when it comes to the gun laws. Probably moreso than even texas. Theres quite a few towns around here that encourage it due to the fact there are bear and deer problems. Yes, they are black bear and I consider them more dangerous for the fact that they are difficult to just scare off as well as the fact that most techniques for surviving brown bear attacks just make you a target. (playing dead works for brown bears most of the time. For a black bear they will just consider you a free meal.). I kinda blame the damn tourists that will just feed them, so **** tourists :/

As for with deer, yeah we have overpopulation issues to the point each county has job positons for roadkill removal because of how common it is, especially with deer.

so yeah :/

It has no bearing at all over here in Oz, which is far more restrictive nowadays, and in line with places like NYC in the US.

The only mental thing they enquire about is if you've had involuntary treatment, i.e., court ordered or doctor "forced".

Well, I can tell you this: I have Aspergers, live in California (one of the most restrictive states when it comes to firearms) and own several firearms. I have never had any trouble acquiring them legally. Pretty much if you don't have a restraining order, if you're not a danger to yourself or others, or a convicted felon, you should be good. Just don't lie on the form, it is a felony if you do. But the good news is I've never had my medical records checked as far as I know, though it could be part of the background check they do. hope this info helped you out!
