I'm hiring for a new aide to help me get out in the community more, because I can't usually go out by myself without a melt down or panic attack or wandering off. I've had various respones from people, and I'm starting to interview tomorrow. What questions should I ask to be sure it's the right person for me?

You are meeting her or him in person right?
I think I figure out if I am going to be ok with a person by meeting them. Some people, the way they talk or act, I dont understand them.
You should maybe ask how long he/she has been doing this job?
If he/she has any family members with ASD ?
What would he/she do if you got upset or had a meltdown or panic attack?

By the way, have you ever considered looking into getting a therapy dog? If you dont have a fear of dogs sometimes they can be more soothing and helpful than another person.

I have a service cat. She keeps me functioning. I would love a service dog because they're easier to take out (my cat wasn't trained from kittenhood, so she doesn't walk on a leash and refuses to learn), but I can't take care of a dog. The next cat I get I will train from kittenhood to walk on a leash and go out in public. Until then, my cat works wonders with me at home :)

You should ask if they have references & to see them. If they've been an aid to others in the past & those others have had bad experiences with them, it would probably be best for you to choose someone else. At the same time, if others have had good experiences, they might be worth considering.

Oh good, cats are great too...I have five of those :). I have to move four of them with me to France. My 15 year old cat Im leaving here with my older daughters because it would be too hard on her to travel like that. Im sad to leave her but she will be happier and safer here, plus my daughters have had her since they were little girls.
