I finally was able to get in to a psychiatrist for an evaluation. Now I am officially an aspergers sufferer. Glad to have that out of the way as I am a big anxiety person. I am now being put on prosaic and i got a turtle. Life is looking up for now. I even have heard i will get a phone call from mcdonalds for a job. Anyone know anything about prozaic that i should know about. I heard it will help me with my anxiety and they will have me do sessions to learn to speak with people better. I am happy that i was not just thinking aspergers fit me and being wrong.

Are you saying PROZAC?

Is that what is being prescribed?

I first saw a Psychiatrist in the early 90's for a major depressive episode in my 20's.
I was given Prozac. (that was wildly popular back then)
For me it was a nightmare -

Weight gain, MORE depression, flattening of personality, loss of sharp focus & sexual dysfunction.
No thanks.

Then I was given Zoloft, Paxil and every other SSRI out at the time.
I finally refused to even consider putting an SSRI in my body.

Those are my experiences and some people have sworn it helped save their lives.

After having been on virtually every SSRI & MAOI, anti anxiety (benzo etc), mood stabilizer (including lithium) and anti anxiety/anti convulsion drug there is.
The ONLY drug that has helped me in any way was Adderall IR.

I never had "ADHD" as a kid - it was not really diagnosed and prescribed for back in the early 70's. AS was unknown.
Also, there was the hyper activity part which I never had.
I was an introverted kid and "learning disability" or "attention problem" kids were seen basically as unruly monsters who needed to be settled down and disciplined.
For this reason, I went for YEARS without considering anything on the spectrum of learning "disorder" or what have you.
I was highly gifted and quiet - in contrast to the "ADD" kids who screamed and were destructive and acted out.

For me , Adderall quieted my mind down.
Adderall works w neuro transmitter Dopamine.
It is a stimulant (dex amphetamine)
Non AS/ADHD people get hyper on it, but it stills the restless / confused ADHD/AS mind.
SSRIs made me sluggish and feel as if I were in a fog.
So, SSRIs work on Serotonin levels (prevent degradation or inhibit re-uptake from synapse to synapse)
How Serotonin would "help" any of this seems odd to me.

After my decades of being experimented on it is my belief that people w AS "symptoms" are not served by serotonin boosting drugs or mood stabilizers.

This is just my experience w SSRIs & Prozac in particular.
I feel so strongly about it, I think Prozac should be illegal.
I think it can destroy the soul & mind.
Only Lithium was more cruel.
Very destructive.

So, did your Dr tell you why he/she was prescribing Prozac?
For depression or what?

Very strong (2-4 bags per cup) Chamomile tea will help with your anxieties without turning you into a pharma-zombie.

Do you really think its wise to soak your brain in chemicals that do not exist in nature and were cooked up in a lab only a few months or a couple of years ago by chemists who think turning this part of your brain off, or that part on, with amphetamines might be good for you if the laundry list of side effects doesn't kill you first? :eew: These are the types of minds who thought keeping soldiers alert in the field with Crystal Meth was a good idea...

hi Willard.

I am not sure who you are addressing, but I agree with your post.
I would not want to suggest to a poster to ignore his Dr's recommendation, but rather relay my experiences.

Drugs are terrible IMO.
As I said, I don't and won't take anything any longer.
I admit I take Adderall when I am stressed as it centers my mind.
The first handful of times it felt like a miracle drug as it really opened up my mind as if a balloon was expanding in my skull and I could think "focus" clearly without "thought noise"

After a while this was no longer the case.
The same w appetite and relieving my chronic constipation. I didn't think to eat very often. I became semi regular after years of constipation.
These were short lived side effects. Also, I needed to up the dosage to even feel anything.

Now, I use Adderrall "as needed" for me. To clear noise on occasion.

The best thing for me through the years has been being able to control my environment.
Keeping a regular sleep & diet program. Getting exercise and keeping a low profile and avoiding exposure to social and physical stimuli that triggers me.

I am curious as to why a Dr prescribed Prozac for AS & what the goal of the prescription is in the first place.
No pill can change your thought processes and experiences.

If things are looking up, why do you term yourself a "sufferer", you aren't sick, you just have a difference of ability that presents unique challenges but you aren't sick. :)
