i really love when i'm immersed in a project or an interest and that's all i think about 24/7. however .. the flipside is: when something's bothering me, i can't get my mind off it or stop analyzing it. anything that's out of my control is the worst, because i think about everything as if it's a puzzle and if there is no solution, i just think and think and think and think ...

anyone else? any advice on how to end a pointless thought loop or "switch channels"?

hi.

I have never been able to "switch off" with any technique.
I have never tried.

I am not sure it would work & for me would probably have the opposite effect.
(Like trying to fall asleep - the more you think about being unable to sleep, the less likely you are to fall asleep)

I think one just has to "ride it out" - "burn out" "exhaust" etc.
Something else will come along to distract you or the focus will eventually wear off.

If you're a pilot at 35,000 feet with 300 passengers behind you then focus is good. If you've five different projects to manage and the phone is ringing off the hook then you need to adapt a little.

As for 'breaking the loop', an hour of crazy passionate sex does it for me but YMMV. 8)
