When I saw a psychiatrist and mention me possibling having AS he mention "you couldn't have that that's something diagnosed in children there's no pill for and this is a place that gives pills." I was shocked by his response. My current psychiatrist I mention I believe I have AS and he said perhaps and here's another pill to "level your mood." I had to get a letter to return to college and he asked so you are being treated for a mood disorder and Asperger's right? I said yes. When I mention what the psychiatrist said to a past WP user they IMO went all defensive oh did you get tests did they say it was bad did you get help for it etc. I take that he listened to me talking about possibly having AS AND asking you're being treated for it as a confirmed diagnosis. What are your thoughts?

It's obviously not something that's only diagnosed in children......I was diagnosed at tthe age of 56. He doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. Find somebody else who makes more sense.

That's scary that even 'professionals' have that much ignorance about us.

I don't understand how this person earned his/her degree. What an idiot.

And a perfect example of why folks don't go for the official diagnosis for fear of getting one of the uninformed/under educated.

Professionals can be very ignorant, about those of us, who are on the spectrum. I know myself more, than any professional ever will.
