How can you guess how old someone else is or how old you actually look? (This has been causing me some problems)

Always guess 5 years younger than they look. If they look to be under 18, guess 5 years older.

I have trouble with that. People don't look like ages to me. I have no idea and nothing to base it off of so I hate it when people ask me to guess their ages.

It drives me crazy, when somebody asks me to guess their age.

I'm not as good at this as most people, but i can usually tell the general age range they're in: baby, kid, teenager and young adult, middle-aged, or old. Any young-ish adult i see i tend to assume is my age. I still kind of think of myself as a kid, so when someone around my age starts talking about their kids or marriage or something, it always shocks me. Anyway... Wrinkles and lines usually give away when someone's older. Younger peoples' faces usually look softer and less defined by lines and all.

Carbon 14?

Some people look young or old for their age. Plastic surgery complicates matters.

Or you could just ask them how old they are if you are not asking a woman.

If this is an age guessing game thing just tell them that they don't look any older than the pioneers. This will be construed as sarcasm but won't actually make them mad.

I don't know how to tell people's ages either. Age is only a number to me. I ask if I really want to know but NEVER ask a woman her age(women can get very offended or lie) unless it's possible that she could be underage then you ask for her ID

A lot of people don't really look their age. I can usually guess what age group that person is in (teens, 20s, etc...), but I can't guess the exact age.

Why would you need to know a person's age?

Practice.

Outfit and hairstyle can help. Also if you count the number of wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles: above 20 (more pronounced as older)

Mouth Wrinkles: late 20s/30s plus

eye wrinkles: 40s

etc...

The skin also gets darker as people age and becomes more rough/pockmarked looking. It tends to sag gradually from about mid 20 onwards.

women tend to look older than men their age, and stress/alcohol/smoking can make a person look older.

Smiley people look younger (hard to see normal wrinkles because smile wrinkles block them).

If in doubt though, say 25! :)

Ask them, or look for clues about when they went to school etc. It's really hard to tell by looking at someone.

You can try looking at their hands. People often do a better job of covering up signs of age on their faces, but forget the hands or neck. Still, depending on genetics and environment there is a lot of variation.

Sometimes it's OK to ask even these ladies, if you can make it sound like you shocked about something they said that would indicate their age. "What? How can you have a grandchild? You can't possibly be old enough? No, really, I know it's rude, but how old are you? No no, you don't have to say, but really...." Just about anybody will fess up if you can catch a moment like that. It helps if you're sincere.
