Anyone else have a constant desire to coat-trail?

I seem to have this wish to be provocative, to wind people up. It's got me into trouble a few times but I can't stop doing it. Why is this?

It is fun though. ;)

It might be because of boredom.

Sounds like my dad.

If by "coat-trail" you mean play the "devil's advocate", then yes, I've done that, more so in the past.

I second this notion based on my own experiences.

No, 'coat-trailing' means to deliberately state or do things in a provocative way.

So if certain people say don't put flags up, I want to put flags up just to annoy them.
Someone says you can't drink on the park (and there's no legal basis for the ban) I want to drink on that park.
Someone says these people are bigots, I'll spend a fair wad of cash to go and watch them being bigoted because I like them.
Someone says don't drink so much, I'll have another pint and savour it, rubbing it in their face.

That's the meaning of coat-trailing.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

Funnily enough, it still sounds like my dad.

Well I definately do it because it is just simply amusing to do. Good example would be just going on a liberal or conservative forum and act like the STEREOTYPE of the 'other side'. Its just very amusing. Same for going onto a christian forum and declaring yourself as a satanist just because you can.

Off of the interwebs my biggest one would have been one day I was at the county fair, there was a baptist church and a jehovas booth right next to each other. The baptists come up and try to get me to join, so I claim that I am a jehova. The jehova hears thats and greats me as I walk past his stand and I just drop the whole "**** you" quote just to make a point. It was a very satisfying thing to do.
