Hi haven't posted in awhile. Just curious if anyone with AS has every noticed that they were more flexible than most as children. My toddler son is hitting his physical milestones late, and the doctor says that it is because he has loose ligaments. He can touch his thumb to his wrist, touch his toes to his shins, and his knees will hyperextend forward.
I read somewhere that Aspies can have a different gait, which my husband has. He also was able to do the splits in jr high, which I couldn't even do as a little girl. He was also teased as a child but doesn't really know why. So I suspect that there is some kind of link there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am very flexible. My fingers bend almost to the back of my hand used to be touch the back of my hand with some. When i was a kid I could put both feet behind my head now at 38 only one at a time. I also have the ability to get into very small places even though I'm a big guy much to many peoples suprise I tell them I have no bones :D It comes in handy becuse I fequently have to work in attics and under houses. Two of my three kids are the same way one is diagnosed and we are in the process with the other. My son had to wear corrective shoes when he was younger to keep his feet in the normal postion I did too.

I too am very flexible. I can still touch my wrist with my thumb and I'm 40. My arms can bend slightly backwards at the elbows. Because of this I could never shoot an arrow with a bow properly. The bowstring would always painfully make contact with the inside part of my elbow since it's bent inwards slightly.

Yeah my joints are all loose as well. When I was little I could put both legs behind my head, and even now if I sit with my legs crossed ancle to knee my foot points straight down which weirds my friends out.

I'm an aspie, and I'm very inflexible. For instance, I'm sure you're well familiar with an infamous gym excercise where you gotta touch your toes with your fingertips without bending your knees. Since day one, I viewed this excercise as physically impossible (I still do), and had no idea why in hell would a gym teacher even come up with it. So I don't think Asperger's and flexibility have anything to do with each other.

I'm unique in that my only my hips are hyperflexible. I can also get my feet behind my head.

Believe it or not, Bob Barker has a torn ligament. All "Price is Right" tapings have been postponed until a later date.

He is 82 years old. He will be 83 in December. He has signed on to host "The Price is Right" for another 5 years. Then, he will be 87 years old, and "The Price is Right" will have gone into its 39th year.

Very inflexible here. My hamstrings especially, I was told that is partly due to the way I walk. My calf muscles too, are underdeveloped because of this.
