When I watch a program with two opposing points of view, often one side will start and the other will interrupt and start talking over as if the loudest is the most valid. This drives me nuts because it's rude but also I absolutely cannot understand what either one is saying. Even if I try, I can only focus on one at a time. I've had someone tell me they could but that could be crap. Is it normal to be able to do this or generally impossible?

I have trouble as well comprehending the words and the meaning behind the words when two people begin to shout each other down during a tv discussion. If I'm unable to change in my own mind the confusion that I'm getting from the discussion into some kind of order, I will invariably switch to another channel. Although, I sometimes find it interesting to turn the sound off during these shouting matches and study the facial expressions.

Thanks for replying. I thought I had a stillborn thread there. Maybe I should ask this on the hot line thread, because I'm curious if those with neurotypical wiring can manage listening to two different people at the same time and understand both. Anymore I can't read something on line and listen to my son ask me a question. It's all or nothing. This may relate to ADHD. I was on a blog reading about possible careers for people with inattentive ADD and the author said one of the gifts of inattentive ADD was her ability to multitask. Not me.
