Alternatives to flickering fluorescent lights

Is the an alternative to fluorescent lights that do not flicker like a disco light? I know that many ASDs can see a normal fluorescent light flicker.

If all else fails, try candles. At least those flicker much more slowly and smoothly.

I prefer oil lamps to candles. But with either you have to be really careful and I don't recommend using either if you are extremely clumsy or have pet cats. A friend's houseboat burned down and sank, killing both her cats, because a candle caught a curtain on fire.

but dun Candles flicker too? The flame moves around.

Do you mean those long lights like Darth Vader weapons? I substitute "growth light" for that - it seems not to flicker, and it's a more pleasant light, more blue than yellow.

Flickering flourescent = buy a new one.

Or I think sometimes you can just replace the starter? I'm not really sure.

Even a properly functioning fluorescent light flickers, because the electric current changes phase 50-60 times each second. Although this is far too fast for most people to notice, many autistic people are very sensitive to this.

I find large overhead fluorescent lighting to vary between annoying and intolerable. The small compact fluorescent lights are much more tolerable.

We autistics are not alone some animals can see the flickering as well. Btw I heard that Laptop monitors do not flicker to Autistics like what Ms Temple Grandin said. How is a Laptop monitor different from a PC monitor?

I think those growth lights, are a good idea.

growth lights? Aren't they fluorescent too?

What about LED lights?

Why not use incandescent light bulbs? Is there a ban in your country? If so, LEDs may be your only alternative.

Electricity bills?

We've established that all fluorescents flicker, and that you are annoyed by this. So that means either LED, or incandescent. There aren't that many LED bulb options, last time I checked, and the expense will take a long time to offset with lower electricity bills.

There are some higher efficiency incandescent bulbs on the market now. Nothing like CFL or LED, but they are still less expensive and do not flicker like fluorescents.
