do you use "i have aspergers/autism" or do you use "im autistic/ an aspie"

for me, i say i have autism/aspergers. because i am not autism, i have all the issues/ symptoms of a neurological disorder, but i don't recognize myself as just autistic.

The word "Aspie" slips from my mouth before I come out and say "Asperger's."

I use "I am autistic" and "I have autism" interchangeably.

Both statements mean the same thing.

Maybe four or five people know about me? Normally I just keep quiet and let folk take me as I am.

I use both phrases too. Just whatever slips out of my mouth basically.

So do I. For me the meaning is the same (even though I know that they can mean different things, I don't usually think about the potential difference.)

I would likely go with 'I am autistic/have aspergers' or sometimes I just say 'I'm on the autism spectrum' I guess it just sort of depends how I feel like wording it.

I am autistic / I was diagnosed with Asperger's / I am on the (autism) spectrum

I don't *have* autism or Asperger's - it's not an illness that can be cured; it's who I am and always have been, even before getting the diagnosis.

Usually I do not say anything. Only a few people know what is really going on.

When someone comments on my odd behaviour, I reply that I am mentally disabled.

I use 'am autistic' more than 'have autism', but it's purely out of habit, not ideological.

I prefer "neurologically disabled", which I do have a diagnosis for. :P

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

Oddly enough I don't usually let anyone know I'm an Aspie until I spend a good deal of time with them.

I use both the term "Asperger's" and "Aspie", but I usually use the former more often than I use the latter.

I say "I am person that has both Aspergers & ADHD".

It's strange, coz an ADHD person is reffered to as an "ADDer", and an Aspergers person as an "Aspie". Adders & Asps. Kinda like snakes.
It's just an observation I have made.

We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

I will happily use either "have" or "am".
