Today, I went to the awards ceremony and as far as I know, I found it pretty awkward and pretty nerve wrecking, but not as much before as I would of probably wouldn't be able to walk up on stage and literally say either nothing or something but would be stuttering.

I had my face been shown on the big screen for some project announcing the names of the students to come up and get their award and even myself got one.

I must say, the day has been good today.

Does anyone else get nervous in ceremonies?

I avoid them like the plague, if I had known I was allowed to skip my highschool graduation I would have without question, but no one told me so I went. I did, however, skip my college graduation, as I see ceremonies as being utterly pointless.

Similarly any large gathering I have the same attitude towards. In highschool pep rallies were mandatory. When one was going on we would miss the last class of the day and be forced to attend the pep rally instead. Before going to highschool, when still in middleschool, we went to the highschool and took a tour and witnessed a pep rally in progress.

Right then I swore that while in highschool I would never attend a pep rally, and I never did. We had them about once a month, and teachers would always patrol the hallways looking for students who were trying to skip them to make them attend.

I would either hide out in the library or just leave school premises altogether, there was a mall across the street, and a large book store down the road. Once I could drive I always just went home early.

I remember going to my High School awards ceremony. That was very very hard on my nerves. I had a good time, but I was glad, when it was over.

My mom dressed me like an 8 year old for my grade 8 graduation and I didn't know enough about the rules of popular dress to realize the problem.

I won a music award at my high school grad, and one of the teachers started telling some story about my dad but he got interrupted, much to my dad's relief. And I was dressed properly this time.

I would always get this rush of anxiety when they got close to calling my name. I recently went to a university convocation for my dad who was getting a Master's degree and I even started feeling nervous when they got close to calling his name, but that was mostly because my sister wanted to yell "Yay Dad!" and I felt like that would be totally wrong and possibly disrespectful in a serious ceremony like that. She chickened out.

Congrats on your award.

Congrats on getting through it - I hate them like the plague. I coukld not get out of 8th grade and HS graduations, but those were the last. Custom at my university, when a grad degree is awarded the supervisor is supposed to escort the recipient to get the doc. I made my students swear - if they wanted me to supervise them, they had to agree NOT to have me escort them.

As for pep rallies - my school there was no plave to hide. I just burrowed into a seat and gritted my teeth,

I got an award for actually taking part in the peer mentoring thing that was happening at college. It was a new thing that was happening at the college and it has actually helped me in a couple of real life situations and how to approach it when it does ever happen.

It was a pretty good thing I suppose being the first. :)
