Who else never does it? I have the other person do it, except one time I did order and I nearly died.

of the few times i've been to a restaurant, if it weren't me doing the ordering, there wouldn't have been anybody else available to do the ordering. IOW i usually can't find anybody else willing to eat out with me.
as far as the mechanics of ordering food goes, i find the wait staff seldom gives me enough time to peruse the menu and choose something, they are always in a damned hurry.

i usually get a togo menu before hand, the only time i eat AT the restaurant alone is when im at a fast food place. last year i went to olive garden alone and felt so out of place. FF places for one, dont have waitstaff that visits you every few minutes, and two, they are accustomed to people eating alone. when i eat out, i generally get take out.

it helps to phone in your order too, you dont have to look at the person while ordering, and you can spend as little time as possible at the restaurant.

i just tell them what i am going to have, and if it is not on the menu, then i go.

i can not be bothered reading menus much. i enter a restaurant with a dish in mind, and i rapidly attract the attention of a waiter and tell them what i will dine upon, and if they say it is not available, then i will leave.

it is easy

For sure, I hate ordering at restaurants or fast food places >.<

Maybe even more so than dealing with cashiers at checkouts.

I'm normally more comfortable doing it with friends as I do hate being alone in those settings.

I've always felt weird ordering, and in fact, I was afraid of even going to fast-food alone until I was mid-teens. I can handle it OK now at any restaurant, but I really like it when I'm a guest, and the host does all the ordering. When I order for myself, and a fast-food place, I still feel weird. Not sure why.... Same is true for most any other store or service business.

I always feel awkward trying to order. I stumble over words, don't hear the waitress, or don't have enough time to order. I never look at the person's face, because to me that is too personal and up-close to do. I cannot ask for something else, or tell them that something isn't right if it is messed up, I would rather eat it and not have that interaction. I will drink horrible all co2 soda because I don't want to tell them their soda needs help. It always sounds like I'm criticizing, but I really just want to help them not have complaints or problems, to help them fix it.

I can never do drive-thrus well either. I always mess it up somehow. I am so flustered by the experience, that I forget sauce or something else I need.

At stores and cashiers I always feel like they think I am going to rob them, or are some sort of serial killer or something. I feel like yelling "what, my face doesn't know how to look to not be strange."

I don't like to talk with waiters, but if I must, I do it. I hate when they can't understand I REALLY don't want any sauce, butter, cream etc. I repeat many times I want something PURE, but they bring me it with sauce, because everybody eat it with sauce. It makes me mad.
So I used to tell waiters I want this-and-that, PURE, it means I want it without any cream, sauce, butter, margarine, ketchup, mayonnaise, roux, icing, sugar, WHATEVER. Did you understand? I want it PURE! My Mum thinks it's rude. Waiters still have problems.

I don't like restaurants, because their food is too salty and too fat. And I don't know what's inside. If I cook my own food, I know it.

I don't have a problem ordering things. What I have a problem with is crowded restaurants. I do not like eating in a place if I can't get a corner seat. I will also never eat in a fast food restaurant and if there are a ton of people inside I might just leave and eat something at home. I usually look at the parking lot to see if it's packed with people or not.

My mom always made me order my own food when I was in my teens because she wanted me to learn to be independent and do it on my own. Now I have no problems doing it.

I check the menu ahead of time (usually online) and then ask my boyfriend to ask for me. I know the last part sounds terribly antiquated, but many of my mannerisms seem to be.. :bounce: anyway, it's easier because I get nervous. I'm really specific about the ingredients, so it helps to have someone calmer try to explain my preferences

My problem is deciding what to order. The items on the menu look so good.

I have trouble ordering in the same way I have trouble shopping for something.
I'll study the damn thing trying to balance the cost versus the enjoyment/benefit.

The waiters and waitresses are paid to put up with me being difficult. (Not that I try to be. It just happens.)

I know what you mean!

I've had waiters even make note of it and the order comes back WRONG! Rather, I fault the people in the kitchen for rushing with paying careful enough attention to what's on the order. Usually for me, it boils down to someone putting mayonnaise on a sandwich when I said not to, or mushrooms where I said I didn't want them. For the mayo and other dairy items, I'm lactose intolerant, so even a DAB will set that off!

I have had the waiter or counter person (fast food) GLADLY take the order back and tell the cook to redo it. At first, I felt bad for doing this until once I ate a sandwich I tried to scrape the mayo off of.

Didn't work.

I was HORRIBLY sick for a good while.

That taught me to SPEAK UP when it comes to ordering food!
