I know that I have to meet all the criteria in the manual to be considered for a diagnosis. I honestly do meet the criteria, but I'm not sure about the "clinically significant impairment in social functioning" part.

What does that mean? Could anyone give me examples?

I am a psych major but I still have a very long way to go and I am on the spectrum myself. Basically, your symptoms meet the criteria on the DSM but the doctor who told you this maybe because he doesn't think that you have Asperger's Syndrome. I know another young man who was diagnosed with ADHD but his symptoms are too close to Asperger's Syndrome to me. His doctors tested him for it but they claim that there wasn't a trace of AS in him. However, he has been known to have limited interests social with drawl.

As for your diagnosis, I would check with different experts who just might be able to find a link connected to AS.

But what kind of impairment? I have only one friend and my whole grade thinks I'm either ret*d or a snob. I have almost no knowledge on chit-chat and equally bad empathy.

Is that serious enough to be a social impairment?

I kinda took it as meaning that your lack of socialness affects your life. Such as: not being able to go to work, not being able to make/keep friends or have a romantic relationship. It keeps you from "moving forward" (so to speak) in your life like an NT person.
